Red Orchestra battles for free

Free trial for Battlefield-esque first-person shooter goes into effect August 2-7; full version of game downloadable through Steam.

It isn't too easy to recruit soldiers for war, as the whole "almost certain death" thing is a turnoff. As for recruiting war gamers, simply offer the experience for free and watch the platoons balloon. Tripwire Interactive today announced that its PC team-based first-person shooter, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, will be playable for free from August 2-7. Gamers will be able to download the full version of the game through Steam, Valve's digital download service. After the trial expires, Red Orchestra will return to its regular price of $24.99.

this game isnt really a game at all, it's a test of your ability to travel through time!
when you arrive your cought up in WW II ! there is no escapeing your fate.
everything in this game is here to allow you to engage in urban warefare, and to climb into a 30- 70 ton steel behemoth that will belch hells fire and travel at 30 mph !
the terrain varies from 5 city blocks of house to house fighting, to miles wide arenas filled with only terrifying beasts which can blast a hole in the side of your land cruiser at 1\2 mile away.
you will fight and you will die! for the Fatherland, or for mother russia!, battlefield 2 is sugar coated violence compared to the real thing! there have been several patches , all aimed at creating a more realistic dog fight. no bunny hopping here !
try it if you dare, its as real as they can make it ! combat by the seat of your pants no bull!

Red Orchestra rocks. Infantry combat takes a while to get use to. Infantry combat is a bit hard at first, but once you figure out the weapons, its pretty fun. Tank combat is awesome. You NEED 2 people to operate a tank. One to drive and one to fire the main gun. I like how tank shells ricochet off the vehicles and explode on nearby ground with the potential of kill soldiers!

Quote - "Why not just play the original free mod itself?"

'Cause this RO is retail-grade, the result of 8 months of gameplay tweaking, all-new art, and new maps. And to the guy who said it's 'hardcore', seriously. The flow of gameplay is way different from the usual WW2 FPS. I'm not completely sold on it (I prefer power fluff like BF 2) but I have friends who swear by this game.
