Red Faction: Guerrilla green-lit for June 9

THQ confirms that third installment in its Mars-set, destructible-environment-filled PC, 360, and PS3 shooter will arrive the week after E3.

Six years and four months after Red Faction II shipped for the PC, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and the original Xbox, its sequel will finally arrive. This morning, THQ confirmed to GameSpot that Red Faction: Guerrilla will launch on June 9, the week after E3. Rated M for Mature, the game will be available for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Developed by recently downsized Saints Row maker Volition Inc., Red Faction: Guerrilla is set on a terraformed and colonized Mars that saw a Total Recall-like uprising of miners in the first two games. The forthcoming entry will depict the struggle between descendants of a Martian mining colony and the totalitarian Earth Defense Force looming over them.

As the game's title implies, players will be part of the resistance, waging hit-and-run attacks in an effort to disrupt the EDF's control of the planet. Various Guerrilla missions will be available in a variety of locations in the open-world game, which will also update the series' signature "geo-modding" destructible environments for the current generation of consoles.

I am getting this. Looks sweet as, like a cross between GTA and Halo 3. As long as you can blow up more things than you could in the 2nd one, I'm happy as, to quote the Cat Empire, "A Puppy Gettin' Lucky With a Lassy".

It's amazing how all of a sudden they announce this. I played red faction a long time back and happy to know that it's coming back. The mighty all destructible engine

Yes... Cant wait, looks great from the videos. As long as they make the 3rd person more realistic, I'll have me a copy.

only thing that prevented this game from being a solid hit was the horrid, uninteresting storyline....hopefully it has drastically improved

the first Red Faction was great FPS ..the second RF game sucked, now lets hope this 3rd person sequel brings back that action (destructible environments) the first game was known for.....

Looks good. Is it wrong that I'm amazed by how the assault rifle-looking gun looks and sounds? :/

I loved the first Red Faction. I first played it on the PS2, then awhile later I rebought it on the PC, which was even more awesome. Actually, I still own the game! RF2 wasn't as good, in my opinion. Hopefully RF:Guerrilla will be cool, even though it's a departure from it's FPS roots.
