LittleBigPlanet 'pushing toward' alpha

After a long silence, British developer Media Molecule says work on its adorable DIY PS3 casual game is proceeding in advance of its anticipated fall release.

LittleBigPlanet is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, and it is being developed by UK-based Media Molecule, makers of cult favorite Rag Doll Kung Fu. The quirky platformer will be coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3, and is currently slated to be out this autumn, with the general consensus being that the due date will be in "September."

Media Molecule seems to be on target for hitting this deadline, given that this week a new post appeared on its Web site to tell the world that "We're still alive!" and that LittleBigPlanet is nearing the alpha stage, which tallies with what the Cambridge-based developer said at a recent UK preview event.

"Sorry for the lack of updates, but we've been having a hectic time here at Mm Towers," said "Jim," a staffer at the studio. "Having finally sobered up after the Surrey Business Awards, we've been slaving away pushing LittleBigPlanet toward the Alpha stage of its development cycle. Basically this means all the cool stuff we said will be in there should be playable, even if it isn't pretty enough to release. The game seems to change every day at the moment and it is very exciting to be able to sit down and play what feels more and more like a complete experience."

He added that at the moment, things were "stressful" and that the team were maintaining personal projects to stay sane, including drawing, writing music...and making other games.

U knew the x-box fanboys would have something negative 2 say didn't u. How sad. Possibly because they have nothing original 2 play. X-box is ok if u want 2 be a generic space marine but not much else!

A demo would be nice, Sony could learn a lot off of Xbox Live, its a much better service and well worth £27.99 a year (off Ebay)

The developers can take as long as they want, as long as it makes LittleBigPlanet as good as possible...just have to be patient and appreciate the work that the studios do

Pretty good, although September seems far away! Hopefully this will coincide with the release of PS Home.....

I've lost interest in this, when we first saw it almost a year ago it would have made me buy a PS3... but not to be released for another 18 months... thats just taking the piss.

With all the delays you start to realise that its not going to be the system seller it would have been last summer... Sony really missed the boat on this one.

I really cant see the point of this game, but I'm sure I'll most probably buy it just so I can actually find out for myself what its all about

Am I the only one who thinks that LBP looks boring? All right, I think that it might be an OK game (maybe for a PSN-game, for 10$ at the most), but there's games for the PS3 that are far more promising, IMO.

Hopefully the unavoidable delay isn't going to push it farther then the holiday season.

Well, this was expected from my view anyways. As long as we get it this year I don't see the problem.
