Rag Doll Kung Fu to flail retail

Merscom announces deal to put Mark Healey's independently developed fighter onto store shelves in August.

Like Darwinia and Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates before it, Rag Doll Kung Fu is making the jump from being a digitally distributed, independently developed hit to being a boxed product bound for brick-and-mortar sales. North Carolina-based publisher Merscom LLC today announced that it had picked up the lighthearted PC fighting game for an August release in the US.

Described by Healey as "a kung fu fight with string puppets in which you don't have to worry about getting the strings tangled up or even having a kung fu fight at all if you don't feel like it," Rag Doll Kung Fu was the first wholly independent game to be digitally distributed through Valve Software's Steam when it went live on the service last October. Merscom's retail edition will actually come with two different versions of the game: a non-Steam build for players who can't connect to the Internet and just want the offline game, and a Steam-enabled version that will allow for updates, patches, and online multiplayer.

Rag Doll Kung Fu will retail for $19.99. It is currently available over Steam for $14.95, but Merscom is promising to include some extras in the boxed version.

The fun part about this game was to make characters...it's hilarous to see yourself in a game, all you need is a digital camera and PS or MSPaint.

It's really not important, physics are nice, gameplay and graphics are lacking. It's a "Don't Play This Game" nominee.

You mean fail into retail....this game didn't impress me much. Maybe as an Xbox Live Arcade Game, it would prosper more but I don't think many people would buy it at a retail store.
