    Disappointing, as a fan of Q3 arena the multiplayer of Q4 is just awful, new physics are bad and the engine isn't as good as Tech3. The single player campaign is not bad, but I found Doom3 was much better and intense. Not a bad game, but really nothing to be so excited.... 7 out of 10

    @lonewolf1196

    "Do you have to understand the previous Quakes to play [Quake 4]?"

    Not really. The first one didn't even share the same story (more of a fantasy medieval vibe), and the third one barely had one (it's just a multiplayer-focused arena shooter, albeit one of the best ever).

    The only thing you need to know is this: Quake 2 had you airdropped to the Strogg homeworld (the strogg are robot aliens that take humans/other life forms and turn them into cyborg killing machines), and you went in solo to tear down their planetary defenses, kill their leader, and do as much damage elsewhere as you could.

    Quake 4 is the true sequel to 2, and the story basically picks up from there. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a team-based prequel to Quake 2, but it's about as story-oriented as the other ones were (so it wasn't). Finally, Quake Live is a web browser-based remake of Quake 3, completely free-to-play. It's fun, too.

    In a nutshell, any of the Quake games can be enjoyed on their own, no matter how much or how little you know about the series as a whole.

    @Chirodip 08:
    Seeing as it is from the creators of Doom 3, it should look alike. id Software made both.
