The PC gaming market has come under assault in recent years as much for piracy as the software implemented to stop it. Pining for a simpler time, CD Projekt launched its online retro-gaming store Good Old Games--or GOG.com--earlier this year, offering classics such as Fallout, MDK, Sacrifice, Freespace 2, and TOCA Race Driver 3 for a reasonable price, updated for modern operating systems, and 100 percent free of digital-rights-management software.

Now looking to expand its user base, CD Projekt announced today that it would be augmenting its offerings with a pair of free games. Beginning today, those who register at GOG.com can pick up Revolution Software's point-and-click adventure games Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress.

According to CD Projekt, Revolution's adventure games were noted as much for their keen storylines as for their use of the Virtual Theatre game engine, which introduced environment interaction for computer-controlled characters. The Beneath a Steel Sky download also includes David Gibbons' (Watchmen) comic book inspired by the game.

Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress aren't the only new additions to GOG.com. Earlier this week, the game service announced that Lorne Lanning's critically acclaimed 1997 platformer-puzzler Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee can be downloaded through the service for $9.99. According to CD Projekt, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus will also find its way to GOG in the near future.

Titles kind of misleading... thought Oddworld had some free downloadables (not hey, buy oddworld for $10 and look at the other stuff we have for free).

Yeah but being able to just install and play the games without having to screw around with SCUMMVM or anything since they took care of that for you is a nice new addition.

Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress have been available for free (legally) for many months elsewhere. This is a non-story. An advert dressed up as news. Kinda sad.

Awwww man....i rented Abe's Oddysee way back when it came out for the PS1, that was one hell of a great game right there.I never got to finish it, maybe i'll snatch it up so i can finally beat it after all this time.A truly original and fantastic game it is.I just started playing through BaSS.It's fantastic, very funny, it's aged very well.

Oddworld needs to be on XBLA and PSN. It would be a perfect game to break the flood of crap like the Doritos game. There hasn't been a big game in a long while except maybe SF2 HD.

Kinda silly since both free games they're offering are already available for free on the net. Still, I do love GOG and have purchased 4 games from them!

Nope, Steam is selling them for the same price - $10. Except with GOG.com there's zero DRM to deal with; you just download the file and it's yours forever. With GOG and The Witcher, CD Projekt is currently one of the best ambassadors for PC gaming, IMO.

Its Lorne Lanning not Lorne Landing. You can probably get Oddworld cheaper through Steam
