Iranians developing game about developing nukes

Players must rescue a nuclear scientist from US clutches in new title being developed by a student organization.

While games have historically had few, if any, geopolitical implications, a number of games have added to international tensions in recent years.

In June of 2004, French developer Ubisoft ruffled North Korean feathers with the plotline of Ghost Recon 2, which featured a fictional general from the country staging an invasion of China. Then there was the announcement of China's own Anti-Japan War Online, which caused a stir for obvious reasons. And just last week the Venezuelan government expressed its outrage at Los Angeles-based Pandemic Studios' Mercenaries 2, in which the player takes on a power hungry tyrant running the country.

It appears games are once again getting caught up in an international dispute, as Reuters reports that an Iranian game under development will deal with the current nuclear stand-off from that country's point of view. It seems the Union of Islamic Student Societies is designing a PC game chronicling the exploits of the fictional Commander Bahman as he attempts to rescue a nuclear scientist from US troops. The Iranian scientist was kidnapped while on a pilgrimage to the Iraqi city of Kerbala. The game is expected to be available by March 2007.

This is not the first time Iranian-American tensions have been used as the basis for a game. Last September, Kuma Reality Games released a mission for its Kuma/War squad-based shooter that puts players in control of a Special Forces soldier infiltrating an Iranian nuclear facility and destroying its centrifuges.

The Reuters report cites the Iranian Fars News Agency as the source for its story. The original report could not be found on the English-language edition of the Fars News Agency Web site.

LOL ... This is very funny and interesting. It really make me laugh out. Finally Iranian ppl make a 3D action shooter game. Now I can be an Iranian going out and shooting around. Thank Goodness! Just tell me ... Why you ppl are busting each other's ass? It's just a game like the ones you American ppl make every month. and every year. An American guy goes out and kill ppl from other nations, aliens, animals and everyone plays it, enjoy it and no one gets angry about it.
This game does not obviously mean that Iranian soldiers may shoot Americans where ever they find'em. LOL ... Hey ... I wish someday we could make sth like COD or MOH to play as Iran soldiers against Iraq soldiers. I'm damn tired of killing Nazi soldiers and I hope someday Iranian developers go for it. But if they want to do that they ought to do it before Iraqi devs do the same against us.

People seem to forget, that this is not the ONLY game you shoot at US. Troops. Does anyone recall the Battlefield 2 game? So why is this a BIG deal? If some college kids, want to develop a game for their government than fine. I mean it's not like the U.S. Army didn't do something like. :-/

I'm glad they made it. if Americans can make fun of other nations and kill them and advertise their way of doing business, why not other countries?

Wow, I can't wait to play this game. :-p Ok, I just got back from Iraq, does this make me an expert on things overseas? No it does not, and I wish people would stop using their deployment to gain extra creditability. This is my View on the whole thing. Iran is dangerous to the U.S. There is no question about that, and a war with Iran would be costly in both lives and oil. To me no U.S. Soldier life is worth oil. The war in Iraq is a war that is needed, however things were messed up from the start of the war, and changes need to be made in order to get what we messed up right. The fact of the matter is, we are there, we messed it up, we need to help fix it. To leave now would mean the 3000+ lives that were laid down in support of freedom to the Iraqi's and the safety of the U.S. would be in vain. Lets face it, Israel has every right to keep its land, they took it over and kept it for 3000 years and made a nation out of it. Thats how counties get started. Should we give back the U.S. to Europe, or the Indians? I guess some retards out there would say yes, but thats just plan dumb to even think about.
Lastly, this game. I want to play it. :-p Iran has every right to build up it's weapons, and it's energy. I don't believe we should try to regulate their progress, but it's scary to see the person that has control of the weapons. Thats the REAL problem. If someone has weapons capable of destroying thousands in one shot, and express it's intent on using it, that should scare ANYONE. This game is fair, because we do it all the time. I want to play it, and I hope it's good. In the end thats all we gamers care about right? Is the game fun, and does it play well.

I dont really care about the game itself. There are plenty of propaganda games anyway. The ones from the west are just a 100 times more, but thats not why I'm writing this. I wanna make something clear for the morons that want Iran to be invaded and 'liberated' (like Iraq?). You already have the Palestine-jews problem, the Syria-Lebanon issue, ofcourse the hell in Iraq (I've been there a year ago) and if you add Iran to all this then there will be a whole new world war in the most dangerous place on earth. And I forgot about Afghanistan where the Taliban and Al-Qaeda are still fighting with no sign of giving up. It doesnt matter if the Iranian people love or hate their government. Its all about the fear of a long lasting war. If the Iranians look at how Iraq got 'liberated' then I dont think they would like to give america a shot at 'liberating' Iran. Plus I dont think that they want Iran to be a terrorist-america battlefield like in Iraq. I've seen this a-hole american general in a press conference that literally invited terrorists to come to Iraq to fight it out, like it was his own damn country!! If they want to fight terrorists let them do it in the US, so other countries dont get F***ed up in the process.
Anyway, the US will NEVER invade Iran. They know for sure that they'll lose. Not because Iran has a superiour military or anything, its because of the people. They wont allow the US to F-up their country like they did in Iraq. Not only the Iranians will stand up, think about all the shi'ite muslims in Iraq (majority), they can tolerate the US in Iraq because of Saddam, but if they attack their shi'ite neighbours then they will unleash hell on the americans in Iraq (that already have enough to deal with). I think a retired british general put it best: I think Iran can take over Basra (Iraqi shi'ite city) using nothing but 2 soundtrucks and 2 mullah's.
Not only will a potential war last for ever and take many lives, the oil prices will sky-rocket and there will be an energy crisis in the world. Especially caus Iran said that they will destroy tankers leaving Kuweit, Iraq, Saudi-Arabia and all the other gulf states. They can too now they have the fastest underwater missile in the world. Its so fast they cant use something to stop it. So thats why I dont think the US wil ever invade Iran, its too difficult, and they couldnt even handle Iraq.

Good to hear that they're making something like this. It's fair. If we can make things like "Mercenaries 3" and "SOCOM", they can make their game, too. Any American citizen who disagrees has let their so-called "patriotism" get in the way of truly believing in free speech, justice for all, and in general, fairness.

as i told you earlier,go read some history books first....your knowledg of the revolution is as dumb and as limited as the words people say in taxies.....the previus regim was much better than the current one ..everyone knows that...but dont you konw what they did in theire prisones???in evin???he was a dictator as well.....and who ever said people listened to mullahs for revolution???there were at least 9 diffrent alliance who led the revolution and one of them was the islamic groups

mojahedine khalgh...,,,kominists....socials....toodeyi....melli.....you sure dont know anything about em huh???but it was the islamic alliance won at last with some political manners which we will not talk about here

i'm not with the regim,,but at least when i say something,i know about it.....i bet you're not big enough to remember the 8 year WAR....do you remember the RED ALARMs??do you remember the bombs falling and the explosions sounds????do you remember the dead bodies ?cours not,,,cause if you do,you never ever begged US for invasion.....if you dont like your situation,do something about it yourself ,, dont wait for others to solve for you cause no one will do that.....if US or any other countries invade here, they only look for theire advantages .....

you guys are saying that iraninan people are forced and that they have no saying in iran. but the funny part is there is like at least 10ppl right now from iran and saying that we do what we want and no one does anything and yet you guys believe what president bush is saying. all the Nuclear crises ppl are saying wouldn't even been mentioned if the US didn't care about iran. you guys can find other country mistakes but when it comes to your own you can't do nothing. you guys talk about history of iran for the past 50 years or something and you guys don't look at your own history. your saying our govenement is forcing everything when your own government is braining washing you self. as i can remmber George Bush has a oil bussines as i can remmber as long as oil prices goes up George Bush profits from it. also George Bush is friend of the bin laden family. you guys can find sadam heussain in 6 month but it's been 5 years and you haven't find binladen. another thing is you can not compare iran with other countrys. because saddam heussain, binladen are iranian enemys them self. it's funny how you guys are talking about killing and yet there is 11thousand ppl dieing in america every year from gun crimes. you talk about democracy but yet George bush calls all his enemy terrorest and his friend allys. if russia and china didn't have the powers they have today US would call them terrorest as well. and iran already have solar, dams and wind energy they are not enough for the rate that iran is growing and needs more energy. take it from me someoen that live and born in iran. iran is not what you think it is. if your brain washed by your own media thats your fualt but don't mock another country if you don't know nothing.

They must have deleted my original post cause all the moderators must love halo so much. There are worse posts around here and especially on this thread. As for the person who censored me, see you in hell. original post (only censored):

I say we nuke them and steal the game. Then we will turn it into a game where you are a Dumb green cyborg with a cybernetic woman inside his head.you could give him 5 weapons and make him jump 20 feet but not run. Then make boring enemies that laugh when you kill them. Then make a multi-player mode where you can hook up 2 nosex-boxes and fight over who has the smallest penis size.....

Or has my Idea for halo already been taken?

Wow, for the bunch of intellectuals that you guys are trying to come across as, you spell like a bunch of 3 year olds. There is a spell check under the submit button, people.

And all of you ignorant morons out there talking about invading Iran, what is the current death toll in Iraq right now? No country has the right to take over a country just because it doesn't like what they are doing, believing, etc, regardless of what the monkey in the white house believes. It is pointless and insane. You get nowhere. Why do you think the price of oil is over $70 a barrel now? It's a punishment from the people we are attacking. They don't want us there. We're just to arrogant to realize it. Maybe if we backed off, left, and started to mind our own business for the first time in over a century, we wouldn't look like a bunch of baboon anus' and they would stop burning our flags, taking hostages, trying to blow us up, and flying planes into our buildings.

I LOLed alot! It is now obvious for me that you don't know Sh*t about what you are talking about. that's hilarious to discuss with a partial, biased and close minded person!
28 years ago iranians really didn't know the true meaning of democracy and they even didn't realize those services that Shah provided for them and in one word they were ungrateful! those people had been stimulated by a bunch of mindless Mullahs seeking for their benefits not people's. so they revoluted and overthrew Shah but after a few years specially during War with Iraq a large percentage of those people understood that they did the wrong thing, the wrongest thing in their whole life! they regret what they have done but that changed nothing and Mullahs had and has the power in their hands and there is no internal power that can stop them!
NOW with the current situation the people understand what Shah was offering them and they betrayed him! I really can't forget his tears when he wanted to leave iran (forever). he was the true leader who gave absolute freedom to ungrateful people and because of that they betrayed him. and now the following generations should cry for their lost FREEDOM:

the history of that revolution can be shortened in one sentence: "welcome to the new era, Death of FREEDOM."
and now we as the following generations should tolerate the consequences of their wrongdoings!
it's obvious that Islamic Republic government in iran is dictator with its' psychotic president who is a threat to the humanity like Hitler!

I'd just like to throw this out there.

We shoot U.S. Soldiers in a hell of a lot of games. Of the top of my head:

GTA 3, GTA VC and GTA SA (fill up your wanted rating and the army shows up, you also have to kill soldiers in a few game critical missions)

Half Life (those guys that come to clean up Black Mesa are U.S. Military)

Operation Flashpoint:Red Hammer (You fight as a Soviet soldier)

Battlefield 2 or any other 'real world' multiplayer shooter involving Americans

Whatever is bothering people about this game is NOT that you shoot American soldiers (from the number of popular games involving it you'd think we were enamored with the idea). I don't know why exactly this game rubs people the wrong way when the others don't, but if I had to guess, it would be because while killing members of the U.S. Military in games is nothing new, this is one of the few games (the only one I know of certainly) where it seems that it was designed essentially as a forum for killing Americans because they are Americans.

This sort of propagandistic schlock is not a new development in gaming (Anti-Japan War is a good example, as is the game Fugitive Hunter, which is essentially a shallow vessel for the endgame Osama Bin-Laden fight sequence) but it is a deplorable one, whoever it is done to or whatever their intentions. But we need to be honest with ourselves here. The killing of American soldiers in video games doesn't bother the gaming community by and large. I defy you to find me a gamer that has not played and enjoyed one of the following: Counterstrike (you can and do play as a terrorist here for God's sake, and yet we love it), Half-Life, any Battlefield game, or any GTA game after number three.

So say you love the idea of this game, say you hate it passionately, but don't pretend it's the fact that you shoot American soldiers that makes you hate this game (those of you that love it because it lets you kill people of a certain nationality, in this case Americans, all I have to say is WTF) or that the shooting of American soldiers somehow makes it 'different'. Gordon Freeman has buried a crowbar in the brainpan of too many U.S. soldiers for that.
