Golden Joystick noms announced

British gaming awards show reveals nominations; game of the year nominees include Oblivion, Animal Crossing: Wild World, and 50 Cent.

The list of nominees for the 24th annual Golden Joystick Awards was released today, with Nintendo's DS continuing its impressive run. The awards ceremony will be held on October 27 in London's Park Lane Hilton Hotel. The winners will be decided by online voting, and all nominated games had to be released in the UK between August 1, 2005, and July 31, 2006.

Animal Crossing: Wild World leads all games exclusive to one platform with seven nominations, including one for the coveted Ultimate Game of 2006 award. But it isn't just Nintendo's community building game that's raking in the nods; Nintendogs (five), Mario Kart DS (six), and Metroid Prime: Hunters (five) also received their share of accolades.

Multiplatform games racking up the most honors include Hitman: Blood Money (six nominations), Call of Duty 2 (seven), 50 Cent: Bulletproof (five), Tomb Raider: Legend (six), and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (five), which currently has the early lead in Ultimate Game of the Year 2006 voting.

For last year's awards show, more than 200,000 gamers cast their votes, propelling Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to five awards, including Ultimate Game of the Year. World of Warcraft, Halo 2, and Resident Evil 4 were also honored.

Below is a list of this year's nominees. To make your voice heard, head over to the official voting page.

It´s sad but it´s happening with games what happens in music, Britney Spears, N´Sync and all that trash that some people call music, it´s strictly produced for ZERO I.Q. kids that run to the store to buy it and that trash sells a lot. Trash sells if the case is nice and 50 Cent music and games have a nice package, but we all know what´s inside...

*laffs* 50 Cent was nominated by write-in specifically to show how bogus these awards are. And if they actually win, they can be booed off the stage.

Oh my unbelievableness. Any inclusion of 50 Cent in this awards show completely makes this show illegitimate in my opinion. Girl's Choice: 50 cent:Bulletproof...I doubt it.

I'm going to have to admit with pretty much everybody...50 Cent does NOT deserve any award...unless it's for crap. And congrats to Nintendo, for A LOT of awards.
