Fire Warrior update
THQ releases the first information on its Warhammer 40,000-inspired first-person shooter. First screen inside.
THQ has today released the first gameplay information on Fire Warrior, the Warhammer 40,000-inspired action game currently in development at Kuju. Despite being based on Games Workshop's popular tabletop strategy game, Fire Warrior is in fact a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of an individual, rather than taking command of an entire army as might have been expected.
As a young fire warrior named Kais, players will join a team charged with rescuing an Ethereal named Ko'vash, who has been kidnapped by Imperial forces. What starts out as a fairly routine mission eventually becomes an epic adventure spanning some 17 levels, and players will get to employ no less than 16 different weapons as they embark on diverse missions involving trench warfare and boarding a ship in orbit, to name but two. In addition to the single-player game, Fire Warrior will also feature a four-player mode with specially designed levels.
"We are extremely impressed with this, our first game with THQ," said Jon Gillard, head of business development at Games Workshop. "THQ has really captured the dark and brooding atmosphere of the 41st millennium, while making an eminently playable and accessible game. We feel it will be a great introduction for those who are unfamiliar with our worlds, and a fantastic experience of immersion for those already involving themselves through our other products."
It's been announced today that Warhammer 40,000 is scheduled for worldwide release in the summer of 2003. We'll bring you more information on the game as it becomes available.
