Ubisoft Far Crying to Xbox 360, PS3

Publisher's Montreal studio creating console, PC editions of sequel to Crytek's original tropical shooter in fiscal 2009.

In August, game rental outfit GameFly broadcast Ubisoft's covert battle plans for Far Cry 2 over open airways. Though announced exclusively for the PC in July, the open-world shooter would apparently also be coming to the Xbox 360. Thunder stolen, Ubisoft today officially announced Far Cry 2 for the Xbox 360 and revealed that a PlayStation 3 edition was in the works as well.

Leaving behind the lush, tropical environments of its predecessor, Far Cry 2 travels to the strife-ridden continent of Africa, where players attempt to assassinate an international arms dealer as one of 12 unique mercenaries.

As noted in GameSpot's preview of the game from last year's Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, Ubisoft's Montreal studio has built Far Cry 2's engine from the ground up. The game features reactive gameplay elements that respond to the player's actions and an organic environment that seeks to heavily utilize lifelike physics.

Originally developed by Crytek, the Far Cry license was picked up in full by Ubisoft in March 2006. The move followed Crytek's long-term publishing deal with Ubisoft archrival and part owner Electronic Arts in 2004, which has thus far spawned the well-received PC shooter Crysis.

Along with Tom Clancy's EndWar and Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, Ubisoft last month delayed Far Cry 2 to a broad fiscal year 2009 release date, which runs from April 1, 2008, to March 31, 2009.

this game will suck arse on console!! farcry on the 360 was a joke compared to the pc version and tbh a joke compared to most console cames generally.
looks i'd need to buy a frickin super computer to play it too. he says in the video how they wanted this to "bench mark" pcs, "bench marks" are clearly reall fooking expensive.
unless the 360 version is identical to the pc version i will leave it on the shelf.

computers are too expensive to buy for games. I know they do other things, but i'm not paying 2,000 for a computer. I rather buy an xbox 360 for way less and still have fun.

@GrimBee: Crytek didn't make the console versions of Far Cry, nor are they making Far Cry 2.

Crysis already out-performs anything on the 360 and the Ps3... If it wasn't for innovators like Crytek on the PC - then consoles basically wouldn't need to increase their specs as much as they have.

You see- games like far cry push graphical boundaries, and once those have been broken down - more and more developers have a clearer field of vision as to where to take their games.

PC games, literally, set a benchmark for developers. Some console games also set benchmarks aswell, but this is more due to the fact that developers get used to the hardware first - and then make the most of it.

Part of the PC market is to make fantastic games which then push and drive sales of new PC hardware.
Console games don't need to push boundaries like that, because a game can sell real well on a console whether it looks like crap or not.

But alot of PC games have a sort of "duty", if they are a big release, then you need to upgrade. Thats just how it is.
If crytek make a sequel to crysis - then you can guarantee that your PC now (even if it does run crysis well) may as well say its goodbyes right now.

But a new mario game or a new burnout game can introduce more things, but essentially not even need to have new upgraded hardware to play - developers for games like that tend to make the most out of what they have.

Which leads me to my point - Crytek belong on the PC because without them, there will be many stepping stones missing in the great pond of game development.

Crytek have set so many standards, its unbelievable. Already they have made a game which completely trounces the 360 and the ps3's best games. BUT - when it comes to console versions, their work rarely does the same sort of job. Far Cry on the 360 and the Wii were pretty pointless, but on the PC - its still fantastic.... go figure.

Well - to end this post, Far Cry 2 better not be a simple port, and it better push the boundaries of the consoles like crytek push the boundaries of the PC...

I hate that Ubi is porting far cry 2 to 360 and PS3. It seems like there no such things as PC exclusive shooters any more

Hmm. I'm not sure what to expect of this. Despite the technical issues of having this game run on consoles next year when it will likely push PC hardware more than Crysis does, I'm just not sure of the quality. I hope it turns out good, of course.

This is great news for me since I can't afford a super computer, and I don't see how this game can not be truly great just because it's being ported to consoles. Have you forgot it's still being developed for PC? If they're gonna consolify the PC version I'll be surprised. PC games CAN work on consoles, just look at The Orange Box.

Edit: I've also heard that Far Cry 2 will cut the alien bullsh*t that was in the original Far Cry, because I enjoyed the shooting through the jungle but when I got to the bunkers I couldn't get myself to complete the game. I was so disappointed.

... And Far Cry 2 just lost all hope of being a truly great game.

Great, another consolized PC exclusive...... Wonder how much of the original design they are going to have to cut out to make it work on the consoles.
