Free Day of Defeat weekend underway
Valve offers PC users three days of complimentary WWII shootin' with its Source-based first-person shooter.
PC gamers looking for a cheap weekend of fragging buddies got some good news from Valve Software today. The developer is offering up Day of Defeat: Source for free throughout the weekend. Starting today, gamers can grab the shooter through Steam, the company's digital download service, and play for no charge. The trial period ends Sunday, February 12, at midnight PST.
Day of Defeat: Source is a World War II mod based on the Source engine, the same game engine that powers Valve's Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. In the first-person shooter, players suit up as a member of the axis or the allies and then try to fill each other full of lead. The game lets cybersoldiers pick from different classes--such as snipers and machine gunners--and it focuses on team-based gameplay.
DoD: Source was released in September of 2005, and costs $19.99 when buying it directly from Valve. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's review.
