Crytek launches info on Warhead

Yesterday, Far Cry developer Crytek updated its Web site, confirming that a project called Crysis Warhead would be coming but offering little else besides an image of a scowling man in a nanosuit.

The company has now armed the public with a few more details on the new game. A first-person shooter like the original Crysis, Warhead will be published by Electronic Arts for the PC this autumn. It's the first game to be developed by Crytek's Budapest studio, and it will be built on a new version of the German developer's graphically groundbreaking CryEngine 2.

Gamers will play as Sergeant "Psycho" Sykes, who briefly appeared in the original Crysis. As the nickname might suggest, he is described as "more brash and aggressive" than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad. The story will be parallel to the one that unfolded in the original game and will document Psycho's adventures on the other side of the same island.

The first Crysis game from the German developers was released on the PC in November last year to critical acclaim. The sci-fi story took place in the future, and Delta Force agents led by Jake "Nomad" Dunn were sent to rescue a team of archaeologists. The team had been kidnapped by North Korean forces after the discovery of an alien spacecraft on an island off the coast of China.

Crysis Warhead will feature a bigger arsenal of customisable weaponry, new vehicles, and single-player and multiplayer content.

    Awesome ! had tried out the game in a good gamin rig i suggested 2 a friend n it just did the trick .... am a fan of crytek for their innovative whatever stuff they had used to make the game such an friggin action ,thriller and fun filled game that it is now ....

    FRIGGIN AWESOME. Crysis may have been bugged at first but that's what happens when you raise the bar higher than ever. I can't wait for Warhead. I agree with the guy who said make the single player longer. I want to maximize my time playing this awesomeness.

    I think they are gonna have to fix the hunter physics in the last level when it would throw cars and stuff at you. that was where the worst physics were in the whole game

    hope they make a long single player as multilayer stunk. I'd also like to see them fix the A.I. other that that, the first game was amazing. Who can get tired of "maximum strength"

    I hope they allow crysis multiplayer to any kind of CD like pirated,original,copy n paste and etc.my country is hard to find the original one mostly its a damn pirated CD,bull **** it is....

    Hey, Crysis, please makes single player mode longer, ok? Also Upgrade the enemy A.I. too. please. I am not the fan of multiplayer cos I die easily so turn me off all the times. ok I admit I am weak but I wanna to say that games are for entertainment and not for turning pple off when playing, hehe.....

    Delta Force agents wasn't led by Jake "Nomad" Dunn. It was Prophet.

    Gah, when i heard about this, I hoped you would play as Prophet instead since he disappears throughout the entire game. But still, Sycho is my favorite character from the first Crysis.

    In my eyes it seems like EA is milking another franchise to death, but lets hope this game is better and less glitchy than the previous one. The last one was made to sell graphics cards (nvidia even threw the Launch party lan for it, i was there lol). I am really hoping that this game will improve the gaming experience instead of the PC building experience.

    Sounds like another glorious trip through the Crytek engine. Can't wait to see any improvements to the engine and gameplay itself.

    Open your eyes, yes Crysis had amazing graphics, but it was still glitchy. Crysis : Warhead will have the same game engine, and the same bugs, because EA dont test their games properly. And now we have people wishing the game was coming out before september 16th...let me remind you the first one came out November 16th 2007, and at an estimate they started making warhead no earlier than January 2008, in other words, warhead is being rushed, as was crysis, and every other EA game, if anything i hope they delay it and spent some time perfecting it.

    Awesome! First Crysis rocked our PCs. This Crysis can only be better! September 16, DAMN wish it were earlier!
