Crytek officially arms Crysis Warhead

Far Cry developer confirms title of new project set in acclaimed FPS universe...and little else.

Crytek has been toying with the idea of naming one of its upcoming products Crysis Warhead for some time, a fact first revealed in an application to trademark filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in March. However, as could have been the case with other trademark applications filed by Crytek--including ones for Crysis Wars and World in Crysis--Crysis Warhead very well may have been the Germany-based developer's attempt to squat on a name for some potential and undetermined future use.

As it would turn out, that will not be the case. Crytek has updated its official Web site with a promo for Crysis Warhead. In addition to the game's name, the teaser page depicts a scowling man brandishing a pistol and outfitted in the franchise's distinguishing nanosuit.

Although it remains to be seen what shape Crysis Warhead will take, console ports and sequels for the series have been rumored before. The much-speculated console port of Crytek's critically lauded first-person shooter from 2007 gained momentum during this year's Game Developers Conference, when the developer said it had optimized its CryEngine 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. On the other hand, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has also expressed intent to stretch the current Crysis storyline into a trilogy.

    i hope crysis doesn't go to the console because then PC won't have any good exclusives

    Lol Crysis Wars and World in Crysis, sounds a lot like an upcoming Halo game and another game that had come out... hmmm...

    come on xbox 360 port. i want to at least try crysis on decent frame rates even if it means i have to use a control pad.

    "Bladefighter23 Crytek said they weren't making any more PC exclusives so this has to be a Crysis port. I mean they aren't gonna make a sequel or expansion on the 360 and PS3 if the original wasn't, so what else could it be? It has to be a console port. I'll be shocked if it isn't. "

    Memorable and interesting characters are important, but a "touching story"? Come on. A touching story sounds like you want a story that warms your heart and has a romantic relationship underbelly to the game. 100000, yes you can* run Crysis on less than $1500 PCs, but it looks so terrible that I couldn't stand to play it. The flashlight is just a big yellow triangle, the plants, etc. look like pure garbage, etc. Even on low it should still look at least as good as something that came out 2-3 years ago.

    Crysis was badass awesome. Just like Gears of War really had no story, and even though the characters in Crysis aren't nearly as memorable as the ones in GoW, it doesn't need character development. Badass aliens come and ravage South Korea, its up to you to stop them. Who cares about character development? It's not a RPG .

    FYI, you don't really need an HDTV to run a next gen console, so it's opitonal to buy one...

    You don't need a 1500$ + machine to play Crysis, that's also optional. Just many people seem to forget that Crysis has some of the most varied options in terms of graphics, made so that it can be played on many machines modern games cannot even be installed on. Of course, you lose the nice graphics, but you cannot expect nice graphics and have a crap machine. Also, with a 1000$ custom built machine, you can max out Crysis and play it just fine.

    The Storyline in Crysis has no depth & the characters were not very memorable(except Physco)..........Lets hope that Warhead has a touching story..........

    I agree -CheeseEater- digital distribution is the way forward. Digital Distribution ONLY as no doubt if this is for the pc, many people will jump on torrents and quite happily ruin it for legitimately legal customers like myself.

    My computer runs crysis full max everything with smooth playable frame rates.. and this time next year that hardware will already be really cheap, considering i built it for under $1000 last week... so it's not like hardware requirements are astronomical or anything. I look forward to another crytek game, just hopefully they optimize it better.
