NewsSpots: BioShock demo, Crysis, Tabula Rasa, Conflict: Denied Ops

Sample of 2K's critically lauded shooter now online; EA's shooter and NCsoft's MMORPG get collector's editions, and Eidos' forthcoming shooter is renamed.

BioShock demo zaps GameSpot, soundtrack EP coming
Shortly after GameSpot's BioShock review went live, the demo for 2K Games' critically lauded action-adventure has arrived on the site. Weighing in at 1.93GB, the demo is the same as the one that arrived for the Xbox 360 earlier in the month. It features the beginning of the game, when players first discover the entrance to the undersea city of Rapture and the horrors that lie therein.

In other BioShock news, 2K Games is releasing an exclusive remix EP of songs from the BioShock soundtrack. The disc will feature three tracks--"Beyond the Sea," "God Bless the Child," and "Wild Little Sisters"--reworked by techno artist Moby and Oscar the Punk. The disc will be bundled with the limited edition of BioShock, which is only available at GameStop and EB Games, for a limited amount of time.

Crysis, Tabula Rasa getting special-ized
Two major PC titles are jumping on the collector's edition bandwagon. On November 16, Electronic Arts will publish a three-disc special edition of Crytek's sci-fi shooter Crysis. The SE will contain a making-of featurette, developer interviews, a concept-art slideshow, game trailers, and a unique in-game vehicle. Also included will be the original concept video that Crytek used to pitch Crysis to EA, as well as the game's original soundtrack, composed by Inon Zur (Baldur's Gate II, Prince of Persia, and Everquest II).

Meanwhile, NCsoft has taken the wraps off the collector's edition of Tabula Rasa, the forthcoming sci-fi massively multiplayer online role-playing game from Ultima Online creator Richard Garriott. Real-world items in the black-and-silver package (pictured) include an Allied Free Sentients (AFS) field guide, Tabula Rasa dog tags, an AFS coin, a special edition poster, and a Making of Tabula Rasa DVD. In-game goodies include a special character emote, exclusive armor colors, a unique pet, and one month of free game play. The PC game still carries a general "fall" release date in North America.

Crossfire renamed Conflict: Denied Ops
Last September, Eidos Interactive teased a new shooter titled Crossfire for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 that would focus on two-person co-operative gameplay. Now, the game has been redubbed Conflict: Denied Ops and rebranded as an offshoot of the long-running war series from Eidos parent company SCi Entertainment. Developed by Pivotal Games, it is due out next year.

The only thing I ever like in a special edition is a t-shirt. The rest of the stuff is crap. I still have my Half Life t-shirt.

Crysis looks like it's gonna be great.

There is no point in buying a collectors edition of a game unless you are going to collect it, aka never open it and just keep it hidden away for a good few years. The extra s**t they put in with the collectors or special editions are just useless, apart from a making of DVD. Why would you want tabula rasa dog tags?. Its not like anyone is ever going to wear them.

I too agree with diablobasher - just because I don't buy the special edition doesn't mean I want a game designed for the handicapped . . . oh wait, you said a handicapped version of the game and not a version of the game for the handicapped, didn't you? My mistake. Carry on.

    "and a unique in-game vehicle"

For gods sake. This is a trend that really needs to stop. I'm not paying for a collectors edition just so i dont have to have a handicapped version of the game.
