C&C FPS (unofficially) confirmed

Source close to EALA says the shop is indeed working on a "Renegade/Battlefield-style" shooter set in the Command & Conquer universe.

Earlier this week, Electronic Arts posted a job listing for its Los Angeles studio. The position in question is a sound designer to work on "a next-generation first person shooter game" from "a widely recognized leading sci-fi franchise." Though EA owns the rights to the sci-fi series Syndicate, Wing Commander, and System Shock, EALA is most famous for one sci-fi series in particular--Command & Conquer.

The job listing lead to speculation of a remake or sequel to the 2002 shooter Command & Conquer: Renegade. While the possibility seemed likely, today GameSpot received direct confirmation from a source with knowledge of EALA's development resource allocation that work on a multiplatform C&C FPS is well under way.

Though the source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, wouldn't go into much detail, the project is indeed a "Renegade/Battlefield-style FPS." No information on a title, release date, or specific platforms was provided, but games from EALA's World War II FPS series Medal of Honor have been released for the PC, Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The most recent C&C game, Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars, was a best-seller on both the 360 and PC.

    a C&C FPS is an awsome idea i liked Renegade and i'm sure this one will be as great I hope...

    After the RTS in the C&C universe, there will come a FPS. This will make the story better and it will extend the C&C epic

    hmm what if they make it fps/rts/semi-rpg like the hl2-mod "Empires?" Now that would be awesome.

    I LOVE RENEGADE! I...may...seem...to...get this game. Despite myself being unsupportive of EA, I guess if this game gets good reviews and better options then Im looking forward to it.

    Battlefield-style eh? Should we expect in-game ads, immutable controls, and annoyingly cumbersome vehicles then?

    Hope EA focuses more on updating Renegade than reproducing Battlefield's unique flavor of suck.

    ehhhh im not too happy bout it

    now dont get me wrong i love renegade and still play it all the time its just that that game was very good the way it was only thing i want them to do is maybe some better graphics and a more stable engine(ie. the fact that you would fall through the map, jump a barrier in a car, and jump into a car and get a blue screen and lose the vehicle) but other than that the character classes and vehicles were pretty well balanced and gameply was very good

    That genre is crowded enough as it is. They are going to have to really pull a rabbit out for this to work.

    OMG please don't make it like Battlefield, Battlefield was very unbalanced, i would rather it be the exact same gameplay as the old C&C Renegade

    I loved the first Renegade, but one thing killed me: they didn't get the original voice actor for the Commando aka Havoc, Frank Kelpacki!

    C&C Renegade was a great game. It just preceeded Medal of Honor and may only be lesser known because of the wave of WWII games that started right after it. However, at the time, the graphics, gameplay and multiplayer online, including use of a variety of vehicles and weapons, was way ahead of its time. Can't wait to see this one in the future!

    big suprise. EA GAMES becouse we ruin everything that is good so we can earn some more money. you suck ea!
    even tho some of the games where good.
    *Sigh* money money money.. in the rich mans world.
