What's up with all this stuff about motion sickness and distortion? You guys do know that the only thing different about the widescreen resolution is that it's zoomed in, right? It's not stretched at all, just moved in closer. It's easy to see in comparison screenshots, because more of the wrist is viewable in 4:3. I really don't mind, though. I used a fix I got off a different site (not sure if it's the same as this one or not), and I didn't see much of a difference, and ultimately went back to widescreen because it wasn't worth opening this FOV fix app everytime I wanted to play. Like the developer said in a GameSpot interview, if nobody would have brought it up, nobody would have noticed. Tons of people are playing fine on the 360. The only problem I've had with this game is that I couldn't get it to work with Vista, and I couldn't get the Nvidia drivers to install properly (detection issues, which I plan on hopefully fixing eventually) to see if that would even help. All I can say is thank God I dual-boot with XP.

k34m0n please don't talk BS about things you didn't even researched about.

Of course EVERYBODY can have "wide" resolution out of the box, but they are just crops of the "regular" resolutions.

What everybody wants is a REAL wide resolution with the right FOV.

Actually, there is NO patch needed for widescreen to work in Bioshock...more specifically, if you use Vista. Simply disable the Tablet Services in Vista, enable DX10 and set your widescreen resolution to your liking, and your done. I run mine straight out of the box with no patch what-so-ever at 1680x1050 widescreen, and no, it isnt zoomed in or cropped.

Yeah, that's probably right. I mean it's not like someone gets a widescreen monitor to actually be able to see things in "widescreen", right? Let me ask you this, why isn't 4:3 called "tallscreen"? The shape of the screen is irrelevant to the "field of view" in games. If the screen is wider than the "FoV", and it gets stretched, it distorts the picture (sometimes causing motion-sickness). If instead the "FoV" gets scaled up to fit the wider screen, the picture still looks normal, but more is able to be seen at the sides of the screen.

wow -- almost everyone here is wrong about nature of this widescreen issue. Google around and you'll get the real reason. Essentially widescreen users get a 4:3 screen zoomed up and thereby lose some of the top and bottom of the screen. 4:3 actually shows more that 16:9.

I think the main issue here is some complaint of motion sickness, while it may seem silly (me included as i don't suffer from motion sickness) i have a friend who does, and the original widesceen within bioshock had a unnatural look which can aggrevate the problem for some people.

I thought the 360 version looked the same but with xp (vista if you can get this hack working) and this hack and forced aa thru the nvidia ntune monitor the pc version looks a billion times better.

I couldn't figure out how to get it to work with Vista but in XP pro it looks amazing..."already widescreen optimized" ? you mean "zoomed in" and that looks horrible, it like your wearing fisheye lenses on both eyes and I myself do not see the world like that.

  • geldonyetich

Official word from the developers is that the default FoV is already widescreen optimized. Meaning that it looks best at that setting, not that it gives you a wider field of view versus a non-widescreen display as you would expect.

LarkAnderson, as i understand wide screens like mine have the same hight as a normal screen but more room horizontally, what people have noticed is that with bioshock you had the same amount of horizontal space on normal and windscreens while less vertical view, so in effect they made wide screens less useful in this game
