Atari is in the ArmA now

Dragon Ball Z house picks up North American publishing rights to Bohemian Interactive's European FPS release; newly titled game hits US in May.

While Europeans are just getting into the military action of Prague-based Bohemian Interactive's latest PC game, ArmA: Armed Assault, US gamers will have to wait--but at least they'll get a shot at the game.

Atari today announced that it will be publishing the previously European-exclusive game for North America this May. The localized product from the Operation Flashpoint developer will be sold in North America under the name ArmA: Combat Operations.

The game is a first-person shooter in the vein of Bohemia Interactive's past shooters like Operation Flashpoint, with an emphasis on realism. Combat Operations features both a single-player mode and a multiplayer mode, which supports up to 50 players in one session. There are more than 30 vehicles to take a spin in, and a built-in editor lets gamers create their own theater of war.

ArmA: Combat Operations has not yet been rated by the ESRB or priced. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

I have played the demo into the dirt. Im gonna buy the first copy I see when it comes out in may. If you are in the military, you need to give this game a shot! The graphics arnt amazing, but the gameplay is. Before you attack anything, you had better have all your men in place or you'll get slaughtered. Great game!

Why are we Americans always the last to get stuff?

I'm looking forward to this. Operation Flashpoint was a great game, but it had some flaws. Hopefully this one will be all good.

Seeing as Atari's doing the publishing, we U.S. gamers won't have to worry about StarForce. (read somewhere on the NWN forums they (Atari) prefer/require SecuRom on all titles they publish, course I never had a problem with SecuRom)

Yea i'm not sure about this one. It seems a little suspect. I'm not really into PC games as a whole, it takes a lot to get me excited over one. And this one here not so much.

That took a while, GS. The BIS Union posted that weeks ago. I tried to PM this too.

And why the heck is it called ArmA: Combat Operation on the GameSpot UK? ArmA: Armed Assault was and still is the first name it had, the name the developer named it. Leave it that way will you?

The graphics are not anything special, but I wouldn't call them ugly either. Well, their decent if you are actually able to run the retail version of the game with max settings. The demo, from what I've seen, expierienced, and heard, is horribly optimised. It's mostly plantlife like trees and grass, as I understand it, that kills everyone's framerates.

"I hope they do well on it. Atari hasn't been doing great lately."

this game has been finished for a while, the European versions came out months ago.

rokkuman, I'd like you to find me a game that has anywhere near the level of content OFP and ArmA have with really great graphics. Sorry, but you have to chose between massive gameworld, or great graphics. And the choice people make with OFP is always the first. If you want the second, go play Oblivion. (Which, in comparison to all of the OFP titles, has a very small gameworld.)
