Playlogic has today released new gameplay information on Airborne Troops for the PC and PlayStation 2. The game, which is currently in development at WideScreen Games, is set during World War II and will see players assuming the role of a young US paratrooper named John Welsh, who is charged with completing missions behind enemy lines in occupied France.

Players will parachute into France after their plane is shot down, and the first mission will be to retrieve any items scattered during the descent. Enemy soldiers on the first level will be actively searching for John, so, as will be the case with approximately half of the game, stealth will be the key to success. The other half of the game will be combat-based, and while hand-to-hand combat will be possible, players will have access to around seven authentic WWII weapons, including a Luger pistol and a bazooka.

The player's primary objective in the game is to sabotage German operations in order to ensure the success of the D-Day landings. Each of the seven missions in the game will feature its own primary and secondary objectives, though, including some that will see players fighting alongside members of a French resistance group called The Comet Network.

Airborne Troops is currently scheduled for release toward the end of this year. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
