You get micro-transaction credit, used to buy character slots(you get 24 to start) and inventory space (which is shared between all your characters).

Reserve your character name (characters aren't deleted - they're reset to zero, stashes emptied, progress back to the start).
Micro-transaction credits.
Forum titles.
Soundtrack for download.
Kiwis/athletic chickens for cosmetic purposes (or for kindling).
Create unique item if you're a baller/got that much spare cash.
