The best Paper Mario to date.

User Rating: 9.5 | Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door GC
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo.

This is the first Paper Mario game I have ever played, and I was impressed. The story is about how Peach takes a vacation into Rogueport. She finds a salesman who sells her a box that might contain treasure, and only a pure heart can open it. It opens a map, and she sends the map to Mario in hopes he will help find the treasure.

So when Mario arrives, he sees a gang of X-Nauts, the main antagonists of this game, cornering a Goomba named Gombella. You help her out, and she joins you. You see Professor Frankly, who will help you.

Now, let's start with the graphics. They were pretty good. It's 2D Graphics, but with a 3D feel.(I know, it doesn't really make any sense, but when you play it, you'll understand.) The controls were simple, but well done. Move with the control stick, A to jump, B to smack your hammer, Z to see your stats, Start to see your other items, stats, etc, and the D-Pad is the shortcut keys.

Now, for the battle mode. Thousand Year Door is a turn-based battle mode, which I prefer the most. When you enter battle, the order is you, your partner, then the enemies. An audience will be watching you. If you nail Action Commands, you get Star Power. The audience can also throw things at you, good or bad! I will get to that later, but now, I will explain Action Commands. These are controls that you press when you attack. If you played Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, you will know what I am talking about.

Now, for Star Power. Everytime Mario gets a Crystal Star, he will gain a new ability. Everytime he uses an ability, he loses Star Power(of course). To refuel it in battle, you have to get the Action Commands right, or appeal to the audience in hopes of winning the crowd.

There are a hell load of places to go to. From a colosseum, to a train ride, there are a lot of places to go to and the game was very compelling.

The game also comes with the humor that the series is known for. The characters break the fourth wall often.

The game did come with some downsides. For one thing, the battles did get repetitous, but not too much. Also, there is a lot of talking, which involved pressing A a lot to speed up the dialogue.

THE VERDICT!

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door is an easy recommendation. The game looks good and it's very fun to play. It's definently worth your time. Buy it now.
