Well, let's take a look at the premise first.
The Sticker Comet goes by the Mushroom Kingdom sky every year, and people gather to Decalburg for the Sticker Fest. The comet is said to make wishes come true (not sure that's real or if it's just a legend though).

On this year's festival, Bowser and his troops attack and Bowser tries stealing the Sticker Comet for its power. But he accidentaly breaks it, and releases the six Royal Stickers that were inside the comet. One of them falls on his head, making him all-powerful, and the first thing Bowser does after that is to kidnap Peach.
Kersti is the guardian of the Sticker Comet, and the comet, the crowns and Kersti herself all originate from the Sticker Star.
Mario, with the help of Kersti, has to find all the Comet pieces through the kingdom (as they are attracted to each other and the Royal Stickers, so if Mario gathers them, he will know the path to the next one and eventually to the Royal Stickers and to Bowser).

Doesn't anyone think that's suspicious ? Bowser - accidentaly - breaks the comet, and the Royal Stickers get freed. And the first thing they do is land on Bowser and his lieutnants. Not only that, but Bowser kidnaps Peach only after getting powered-up by a Royal Sticker.
Also, he has strange yellow eyes while doing so (and so do his powered-up lieutnants).

Let's look at the story of the three previous games:
    - Paper Mario: Bowser becomes invincible with the Star Rod, but gets corrupted by its power and starts wanting to take over the entire world.
    - TTYD: The X-Nauts try freeding the Shadow Queen, but the demon acts rebelious and becomes the final boss.
    - SPM: Count Bleck tried destroying every world, but gets betrayed by Dimentio, who might have been behind the whole story.

Isn't it possible that the Sticker Star is actually evil, and Bowser and his troops are corrupted/brainwashed ? Then at the end, the true final boss would be Kersti, or the comet, or something.

Very Possible. I had thought the same thing. Not sure about Kersti. She looks like a space police, guarding the Comet. I think the comet has some secret yet to be revealed.

Uh, Bowser never got corrupted in the first game, world domination was ALWAYS his goal.

He even mentions it in the sequel.

Prior to Paper Mario, his only goal is to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom. Then since then, it's been world domination (TTYD, SPM, SMG, SMG2). Klevar also says Bowser starts "wanting more".

Even then, in all three games, the final boss isn't - just - the main villain. It's either the main thing behind the game's plot, or in Dimentio's case a character powrered up by it that is not the main villain.

    Another factor:
After gathering all main artefacts, you have a last chapter. However, Bowser HAS the last artefact. So there's very possibly a last chapter after that.

Again, possible. But you can't be confused with Paper Mario games and Mario Galaxy games. There isn't an unique timeline for both series. When Bowser had the star rod, he may be tempted by it's power, but it has nothing to do with the other Paper Mario games. It one has it's own story. TTYD is a continuation of PM, but SPM and this game are totally disconected games.

No, his goal has always been to control everything everywhere.

Princess peach, while not important to his goal of conquest, is important to him due to how he feels about her. But other then that she is not needed for what he desires most, control over everything.

Beside featuring the same characters and publishers, alright.
Ignoring that, what I mean is Bowser (in both the Mario series in general and just the Paper Mario series) has never shown signs of wanting to take over the world prior to PM.
We don't need to discuss that anyway. That's not the point. The point is the driving force behind the final boss of PM is the Star Rod, while the final boss of TTYD is the Thousand-Year Door treasure (the Shadow Queen), and the final boss of SPM is Dimention fused with the Dark Heart and Luigi.

They didn't need to show it because its something that didn't needed to be shown, and if you really want to go there, in the earlier games its implied that the mushroom kingdom takes up the entire world.

When I saw the game was being developed I thought Mario might, in some way, wind up being the final boss. He's the only main Mario character left in the Paper Mario series.

    PM1 - Bowser
    PM2 - Peach
    SPM - Luigi

Yes, I know Peach and Luigi were brainwashed.

I honestly find it funny if Bowser giving sticker powers to his minions left and right backfired on him and one his minions and rebelled to overthrow him.

gamefan, that's actually an awesome idea. Cloning or something like the Paladin vs. Dark Knight Cecil in FF4 are the only ways I can think of right now to do this, though.

I still think Bowser will be the final boss (we've seen several kings, final boss should be the Koopa King) but I've said that from the start. I can see anything happening though, esspecially with Jr. involved.

you are thinking way to much about a very basic story plot. you are trying to find evidence from other mario games, which none of the games are canon with each other. besides certain game series, which paper mario is the first of its kind.

there is 0 evidence that show bowser was corrupted by the star rod. bowser was in complete control of himself the entire time, he just had a rod that granted him any wish he wanted. The last boss was bowser with a weapon, that is not meant to be a weapon.

the pattern your trying to explain only makes sense for the last 2 paper mario games. the first paper mario games final boss was bowser, nothing else.

If they did manage to somehow make Mario the final boss, that would be awesome.
He could fight the same way you fight...and the only way to beat him was to have a better technique.

The Mario series has a continuity, even if it's very slight.
I never said Bowser wasn't in full control of himself. He wanted the Mushroom Kingdom, got power, which made him thirsty for more power and the world.
Either way, the final boss is Bowser with the main item of the game. The final boss of TTYD IS the main item of the game. The final boss of SPM is Dimentio with the main item of the game. And the final boss of SS is Bowser with... one of the several items you collect ?
