2013 Review

User Rating: 6.5 | Panzer Dragoon I & II SAT
Panzer dragoon, Now i must admit this game is revolutionary for the time of release but i feel this is another title for the saturn which suffers from lack of replay value.

Panzer dragoon Zwei is based over 7 different levels which follow a kind of strange storyline which i am still yet to fully understand, However the story flows well with the game.

The controls are simplistic but work very well and i really like the multi angle attack option which creates some urgency within the game. The attacks are again limited and simplistic but do not ruin the overall gameplay experience. The graphics are pretty good and still hold up relatively well today, The cut scene graphics are great and the character movement and enemies move fluently without any slowdown or limitation.
However, The game suffers from bland environment design, Upon first play the 1st level is very uninspiring and doesn't really give a good impression of the game. The later levels only slightly improve, The world just seems rather empty and similar, Their are a few good levels but with only 7 short levels their are not enough good levels to overlook the bland.

The game is fun to play overall if you like rail shooters but my biggest issue is really with replayability, The game can be completed within 2 hours or maybe quicker if you are very good, There are new options once complete but as mentioned above most levels are a little bland and there is a sense of relief rather than joy to overcome these levels rather than play them again. I don't feel the game has much else to offer for a casual gamer once complete, High scores and completionists will undoubtedly be drawn to the challenge but then there are many other schmups/rail shooters to choose from on the Saturn which are much longer and far more of a challenge.

The game can be found for a relatively good price so this definitely a pick up and play but don't expect a challenging long lasting game, Once the initial charm has worn off there won't be much reason to go back.
