Fun and brutal party game, that lacks a bit of content.

User Rating: 7.5 | PAIN PS3
First things first, this is a review based on the fact that this is a DLG and not a full title. So dont come after me, i am not comparing this to AC or HS, but to other DL games and as a game itself.

At any rate PAIN in its premise is a simple game but with a lot to it. While you do just sling your dude (or a chick if you buy the DLC) across a downtown there is a whole lot more to getting good. You get 8 poses to strike while flying and this adds to a fun factor and also can be actually used to get a good blast in your butt (literally) and allow yourself a perfect bounce, for example. Additionally you get Ooch "power" which allows you to sort of twitch your guy in a certain direction as long as there is pain being directly inflicted on him. In addition to that you can grab items and npc's and use them to your advantage. Or just grab a mime, sling around on a girder and than throw the bastard from several hundred feet to the ground.
Along all that the idea is to create mayhem not just with your guy but with massive collateral damage by crashing objects into other objects or into traffic (which btw is a TON of points and you should use the overhead to time collisions with the trains or traffic). Last but not least is the air drift which will be helping you reach distant places or even make a full turn around a building corner to the desired target.

With exception of just shedding mayhem you get to play 2 other games in which you annihilate monkeys and bowl mimes. These are not all that fun but you still have to play them as they have a decent number of unlockable content tagged on them. If you dont, you will wind up with 2 lvls, 4 costumes and not a whole of new stuff to play after only few hours.

Truly fun part is to play multiplayer games, and again while the two of the three offered are lackluster, a 4 man game of horse can be a ton of fun.

Game lacks in a lot of aspects though. There is virtually no music, and while a good heavy metal soundtrack would make the game a whole lot better, they did not bother with it. In addition to that your guy only drops painful one-liners most of the time (they can be funny at times), there is no bone crunching effects, collision sounds or anything like that at all related to live characters in the game. Also, there is no blood, and while i do think it would have been highly overboard it should have at least been offered as an option or an unlockable effect.

Overall, there are enough "secret" spots such as smoke stacks in which you can swoosh your guy and than come out flying 1000's of feet in the air and than back, or a passage into subway to continue with destruction, to give the game "depth", but it is all very short lasting and one dimensional. If the game was free and the new content such as maybe about a dozen more levels and as many new character were pay-to-play this would actually pay off. But my $9.99 might have gone down the drain here if i didnt have a roommate and my neighbors, who are total sadists. Read that as a SWAT officer, 2 MMA fighters, avid hunter, and a football player. Point being, better have some angry friends otherwise you'll be done with PAIN in about 2 hours
