STORY

On the night his island home is besieged by a mysterious storm, Sora is whisked to an unfamiliar burg known as Traverse Town.

There he meets Donald and Goofy and learns of the world's strange goings-on. Donald and Goofy set off to look for their missing king, and Sora joins them to search for his missing friends Riku and Kairi.

After a long journey, that takes them accross numerous worlds, Sora and friends find Riku and the king at last. But to save all worlds, Sora must use his keyblade to close the door to darkness even though Riku and the king are on the other side.

Believing the king's parting words-that there will always be a door to light-Sora locks the door, and he, Donald and Goofy set out on a new journey...

RE:CHAIN OF MEMORIES

The game was given a full 3D remake into a PlayStation 2 game titled Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, which was released in Japan as a second disc packaged with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix in March 2007.

It was released as the second disc of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ in Japan on March 29, 2007. The remake includes polygonal 3D battles and worlds using the same graphics as Kingdom Hearts, as well as voice acting and an improved soundtrack. While the card based battle system and room synthesis aspects of the gameplay stayed mostly the same, there were additions, such as the Reaction Command function from Kingdom Hearts II.

The voice acting is only in the hallways between the world floors and in the Destiny Islands and Twilight Town worlds. The remake also includes new cutscenes and battles that were not in the original game such as a fight with Zexion in Reverse/Rebirth. When the game is completed, the player has the option of watching cutscenes in "Theater Mode".[

MANGA

Like the first Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories was also adapted into a manga by Shiro Amano, following the same plot as the video game. It was serialized in Square's Monthly Shonen Gangan in Japan, then released in two volumes in Japan and later in the United States by Tokyopop.

The first volume was released in Japan on October 22, 2005. A year later, the first volume was released in English on October 10, 2006. The second volume was released on February 6, 2007. The series was followed by a third manga series, Kingdom Hearts II. The series was re-released in a boxed set in the United States on October 9, 2007

SALES

As of December 2006, Chain of Memories has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide, with 200,000 units in PAL regions, 400,000 units in Japan, and 900,000 units in North America.
