Overall Feeling: Enjoyable, funky-fresh, jazzy rock covers and mash-ups of c1assic retro games and pop music. Any video game fans in California should support this group and stop by a show!
The Pros: Fantastic solos and break downs, specifically the guitar solos! Great composition in mash-ups and bonus points for live instruments!
The Cons: Sometimes saxophone / horn sections drag or miss their mark. This happens mostly in their older slower tempo tracks, but it's by no means game over for this band.

There two kinds of announcements in the video game industry. One is huge and slaps consumers across the face and often sets the the Internet on fire. For example, PS3 Slim photos or mock ups of what a Microsoft hand held console might look like. The other type of announcement requires a little more thought and discussion before the true value is discovered. This is one of those announcements.
Flashy? No.
Important? Very much so.
Last Friday Shogun Gamer's Vancouver staff was invited to attend a Unity 3D presentation at the swanky District 319. I also got to tag along for a follow up day long developer seminar the next day. Special thanks to J.Joly from DimeRocker for the invite! You can check out photos from the event and developer c1ass below, but let's jump right into the good stuff.
Overall Feeling: Fat Princess is a fun game that has a ton of charm and nice visuals but the core mechanics may not make it a game you'll play three months from now. The game doesn't have any core problems as far as game mechanics are concerned but it really doesn't provide the level of depth most users enjoy from their online games.
The Pros: The art direction and visuals really make the game stand out from others on the market. Disposing of enemies in various wicked ways is fun. The game has a decent amount of maps and game modes that should keep you busy and it justifies the $15 price tag.
The Cons: The current state of the netcode is kind of bad. This isn't really a con since it will be fixed but it's just a warning to those out there and at times it does make the experience a tad bit annoying since connecting to a game can be a bother. The constant stalemate of some Rescue the Princess modes is at times annoying. It would've been nice if there was a bit more variety in terms of weapons and attacks or at least allow high ranking players to choose special abilities.

Overall Feeling: Shatter is an amazing game that will keep you entertained start to finish. The game is unique and the core gimmicks it uses don't grow tiresome at all due to the unique brick layouts you'll come across in the various worlds in the Story Mode. The game is a must buy for those who enjoy arcade sty1e games and PlayStation 3 owners shouldn't miss out on this gem.
The Pros: Amazing visuals and art design; nice power-ups and abilities. The soundtrack has some amazing buttery beats. The pace of the game is simply terrific and the boss battles are a blast.
The Cons: At times it can be a bit difficult to track the movement of your ball amidst all the madness that is going on. Other than that it's just a matter of personal preference if you like the game or not.

A while back we were told a special run of Dj Hero would be released featuring Jay-Z and Eminem titled "Renegade Edition." No details on its contents and look were released, but we were told it would be a little slicker then the Standard controller.
New photos of the Renegade Edition have been revealed and you can check out photos in the gallery below. As you can see the entire setup is black gloss as oppose to the old school Technics 1200 grey look of the standard controller. You will also be getting a case that doubles as a stand so you can wicky-wicky-wah in comfort.

After being announced earlier this year and subsequently teased in trailers and interviews, the fan reaction towards Sega's Aliens vs. Predator was surprisingly positive when the game was previewed at E3. The team at Rebellion seemed to really capture the spirit and essence of the Aliens, Predators and the Colonial Marines and it should be nice to have an Alien and Predator game that doesn't totally blow since there hasn't been a good one in over 10 years.

This announcement was bound to happen sooner or later: the hit PlayStation 3 open-world superhero game "inFAMOUS" is in the early stages to become a movie.
I think I just heard the mass wave of groans after people just read that news. The film is of course being handled by Sony Pictures and Avi and Ari Arad, who are also producing the "Uncharted" movie, will be producing 'inFAMOUS." I guess Avi and Ari are officially onboard the video game bandwagon and I wonder what other properties they have in mind to adapt.

It looks like Sony is finally realizing that there are fans out there that would love to have merchandise for their favorite games. The releases of things like the upcoming Resistance 2 and Ratchet & Clank figures from DC Direct shows that Sony is finally starting to give consumers the collectible goodness that they want.
I expect a mind explosion from some fans out there as Sony and Sideshow Collectibles have announced a partnership to bring the world of God of War to life in a line of premium format figures and dioramas.

At this point it seemed like we had seen it all when it comes to side-scrolling shooters, better known as shmups amongst the fans. We've encountered a variety of shmups like Einhander, R-Type and Ikaruga all of which have their own unique sty1e and most importantly have unique game mechanics that make them a blast to play. It's a bit of a shame that the shump genre is a bit of a dying breed this gen with only a small amount of titles appearing on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade so far. However shmup fans should take note that a very unique and interesting title has just been announced for the PSN which will surely get the attention of the genre enthusiasts.
Recently we've gotten a peak at what was originally in store for Resident Evil 5 as the Biohazard 5 Official Artworks book shows a vision of RE5 that almost seems like it was a different game due to the sheer awesomeness that the concept art promised.
