Myst for iPhone & iPod Touch: "Great interface, faithful port"

It's finally available - Myst for the iPhone and iPod touch! And the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive! But don't take our word for it, head over to the App Store and see what people are saying. Better yet, get a copy for yourself and post your own review! At $5.99 it's quite a deal.

For those of you who have already purchased and commented - a hearty "thanks" for all the support and patience. The conversion took a bit longer than expected, but we were determined to build a definitive mobile Myst application. From your comments so far, you seem to agree.

GameTap to discontinue the operation of Myst Online: Uru Live.

The decision was a very difficult one and was made for business reasons rather than due to any issues regarding the design and vision of the amazing world that Cyan Worlds and Rand Miller have brought to us. Despite the great Myst Online experience coming to a close, Cyan is still a very valued partner of GameTap, we are on excellent terms, and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.

Myst Online season finale starts an Exodus

The final episode of the first season offers plenty of new content, highlighted by the Age of Ahnonay, described as an Age of "deception, mystery and visual wonders spanning thousands of years", in which players will "witness the deterioration of a rugged landscape as they travel through time to uncover the truth." Along with Ahnonay comes the release of K'veer and Myst Islands, which should be familiar to fans of the series.

Myst Online goes episodic!
Based on your feedback and in-game actions, we are making some big improvements. Starting with the next update, we are making the move to regularly scheduled episodic content release. By having a set schedule of updates, players can be ready when major events will be happening in the cavern. That means that the release of all of an episode's content and story (e.g. new Ages, pages, clothing, character interaction, story revelations, artifacts and intrigue) will be packed within a single week each month, rather than spreading out the releases over the entire month.  Read the entire release.

New screenshots and other fun
Thursday, September 21, 2006, 12:44:07 PM

IGN recently had the chance to preview Myst Online: Uru Live.

“After seeing the game again recently, it seems to be in pretty good shape. The idea of a traditional graphic adventure game in the massively multiplayer space is an interesting one. Adventures have in the past been completely focused on single player experiences. Now, Cyan is going to have to think hard about new locations and puzzles that actively involve more than one individual.”

Be sure to check out the screenshot and read more here.

Midway brings PSP Myst west

Classic puzzle/exploration game will see release outside of Japan courtesy of Midway Games; no date set.

More than a decade ago, Myst became a PC gaming sensation with its
minimalist approach to gaming and impressive graphics. The series has
gone on to be one of the best selling of all time, and the most recent
edition, Myst V: End of Ages, was released late last year.

Myst

Platform: PSP

Publisher: Sega

Release: 06/15/2006

Earlier this year, Sega revealed its intention to revitalize the Myst
craze for the portable market in Japan, with Myst for the PlayStation
Portable, due in June. However, there were no plans to bring the game
to other regions.

Enter Midway Games. The company's London-based branch today announced
that it will be publishing the PSP version in the European market.
American Midway reps were unavailable as of press time to confirm a
release in North America, but a stateside release is likely. No date
has been confirmed for the game.

To get a better idea of what to expect from Myst, read the review of the original Myst game from 1995.

CNET Features Uru Live
In this artcle at CNET.com,
Daniel Terdiman interviews Cyan Worlds CEO Rand Miller, along with
long-time AVID Myst fan, "Deg" for the scoop on Uru Live's resurrection
on Gametap...

"In a rare case of a dead game coming back to life, "Uru Live" is set to be resurrected.

"The once-promising online multiplayer version of the hit "Uru: Ages
Beyond Myst," "Uru Live" was in beta and had already attracted a
passionate and vocal (if small) following when its plug was pulled on
Feb. 9, 2004. Exactly who made the call to squelch it was never
entirely clear, but both the game's publisher, Ubisoft, and its
developer, Cyan Worlds, agreed that there weren't enough financial
resources to keep it going. "

Personal message from Rand Miller
An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An
inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered.
- G. K. Chesterton

Fellow fans and adventure seekers,
Uru has been quite an adventure for us. After pouring everything we
had into our vision back in 2002, Uru Live was abruptly cancelled.
There have been several fits and starts since then - various attempts
to keep the vision alive. The most notable was Until Uru - a
continuation of Uru Live that put its future directly into the hands
of the fans. The fans didn't let us down.
Although the fans were able to bide their time in the ancient
underground city and distant Ages, not much changed. There were huge
expanses to explore and share, but the full vision of Uru Live was
designed to be dynamic and changing - providing new story and places
to explore all the time. Now, with some help from our forward thinking
friends at Turner/GameTap, we're pleased to announce that we're ready
to bring Uru Live back to life.
We have been furiously toiling behind the scenes to write some
interesting new content that will make its way into Uru Live in the
coming months. We've also been working on the nuts and bolts -
rebuilding our software and servers to clean up bugs and lag and to
provide a base for cutting-edge improvements in the future.
This new adventure is not without caveats. We're smaller and leaner
now. We have much more to do with fewer people to do it. But we're
trying to work smart to provide new content that provides fresh new
adventure for everyone on a regular basis.
So here we go again into exciting unknown territory. Little did we
know that the opening lines of Myst would be so prophetic.
Thanks so much for all of your encouragement and support,
Rand Miller

Until Uru Fixes
From GreyDragon at the D'ni Guild Forums:

With great pleasure, we would like to announce a small update to Until
Uru. Obviously, this update will not fix everything but we think that
it will make playing Until Uru just a little more enjoyable. The next
time you login into Until Uru you will get these updates.

Almost
all of these fixes and enhancements were created by dedicated and hard
working fans. They worked tirelessly, on their own time and without
specific direction from Cyan. Without these individuals, this update
would not have been possible.

Enjoy!
