Latest Updates
...and this time I'm here to stay. Since this is a movie based union, I thought I'd share with you all Jerks of War: Pillowfight and my trailer for Jerks of War 2: Insane and get your feedback. I really hope our union can get back into the swing of things. Please enjoy...
who made this movie you ask, well the mans name is Nick Goossen, and he may sound like a small name to most of you, hell i dont kno they guy either, but that dosent mean this movie is just another stupid ripoff. the movie is basically allof the side characters of any of adam sandlers movies, all the way from the YOU CAN DO IT guy ( Rob Schneider). to the quaterback from happy gimore ( Peter Dante) you can find all of the cast and more if you hav an eye for those things.
the movie itself is full of great laughs, i can see why adults can throw a movie like this off as garbage, but then again adults cannot appreciate howmuch humor is really in this film. it goes from Videogame jokes, to sex jokes, to Ganja jokes practically in that order. being this as a videogame website, this movei of the week is possible the obvious choice to choose.
TODAYS MOVIE:
GRANDMAS BOY
Jeff:

Ta-da! Today marks the re-imergence of NPU. We will rise from the ashes like an amazing phoenix. So today I thought we'd start off with a fresh, Movie of the Day! For all of you newbies, either wait for the new NPU Update video coming tomorrow evening or head to the NPU board and hit up the Beginner's section.
Marlon Brando. A middle-aged distingushed actor at the time of this motion picture's release, brings life to Don Corleone as no other can. An amazing performance which fed into this intriguing mafioso tale, just made this movie, simply one of the best of all time.
If you haven't seen this movie you must. Mario Puzo combined, great acting, smooth cinematography, action sequences that wasn't as cheesey as most of the action movies of that era were, and plot twists galore to create today's Movie of the Day.
TODAY'S MOVIE:
The Godfather
Don Corleone:
I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.
1. Rec-neps
This first-time MVP is one that you can almost always expect to find posting something in the boards. Not only has Rec-neps done well to try and keep the activity in Now Playing up, but he's also started a couple active games such as the Reworded Movie Game and one of my favorites, the Tagline Game. A kind and insightful member, Rec-neps is more than worthy of recieving the top honor for this particular MVP, good job!
2. acamike
Like Rec-neps, acamike (another first-time MVP) has also done well to keep Now Playing an active union and has even started one of the most active and challenging games on the boards-Connect The Actors. As perhaps the most active member in the past few days at the boards, acamike easily deserves this honor, congrats!
3. ExNeil251
The only MVP repeat this time, but ExNeil is as deserving of the honor as before. ExNeil's one that has always been around to post what he can in the boards ever since his arrival here, and so far he hasn't let up and rarely misses posting his take on a certain topic. With being friendly, understanding and persistant for his time at Now Playing up to now, ExNeil's one that you're bound to come across in many topics, and for that he once again earns an MVP.
We get a glimpse of it through the window of an airliner hurtling into space. That little thwip, that small red-and-blue streak. Some of us think it kind of neat, clever, cool. Some of us feel that chill down our spine; that hushed, truncated breath barely escape our lungs. It's him. He's back, after almost twenty years. (Well, more than twenty - almost thirty - if you pay attention to the films that actually mattered.)
When the airliner nears the end of its descent, when that single man in the blue tights and red cape single-handedly cushions its fall and sets it gently down in a baseball diamond, the stadium crowd stands up and delivers an emphatic standing ovation.
You'd almost expect the audience in the theatre to follow suit, but we're almost all simply in too much awe to do so.
It's Superman. He's returned to us in IMAX high-definition, THX surround-sound glory.

From 3 time MVP, big_old_tom:
"People we need more contestants. No one will make fun of you for having
a bad script. If anything, we will applaud you for being brave enough
to even enter...The worst thing that could happen, is you lose your entrance fee, but you can gain those points right back by writing a movie review. People, just join the competition. It will be worth it."
But wait Tom...
You forgot to mention that for this, once in a lifetime oppertunity,
due to the low activity of this contest to this date,
the entrance fee has been lowered.
"But how much is it now?" you may ask.
Well I'll tell you.
If you enter right now you'll be entered in this amazing contest,
have the opportunity to win fabulous prizes,
and stay active, writing wise during the summer,
All for just $19.95!!!
But wait Mr. Bojangles...
If they enter in the next two days,
the last two days of registration,
They enter this contest without the worries of an entry fee!
That's right!
No more entry fee!
rentfn
A first-time MVP who’s done well at keeping the activity in Now Playing going. Rent has also kept the union up to date on a few posts about upcoming movies such as the much-anticipated Clerks 2. Rent is also just one of the many members you can expect to find on the board and is both thoughtful and insightful in his posts.
ExNeil251
Another first-time MVP who’s always consistent and humorous in his posts. ExNeil is one of the most active members of Now Playing and is also a big part of why the union has managed to keep the activity up. It’s no doubt that without members like ExNeil, Now Playing would be a lonely place.
big_old_tom
This third-time MVP is yet another big reason activity in Now Playing keeps going. Despite being off Gamespot for a few days, Tom has managed to do his part in still remaining an active member. Tom’s highly active Name Game topic has also kept going and remains one of the most active, if not THE most active topic in the union.
The Crossover - where film and videogames meet, intermingle, and once in awhile, collide. Each issue of The Crossover explores a topic from the world of both videogames and cinema, encouraging discussion, opinions and thought. Not satisfied to simply discuss whether or not a videogame based on a movie sucked, or whether or not a movie based on a videogame sucked, The Crossover aims to present you with more in-depth, profound topics meant to leave you pensive and possibly provoked.
This week, we discuss the cinematic experience and how it applies to videogames. Moreover, we prod you with the question: will cinematic gaming, with its set story arcs and scripted events, lead us to have less absolute control over our game space? Halo, or Deus Ex? Read on, and decide. Then, discuss.
XENOmorph00010
Once again, Xenomorph has outdone himself with numerous contributions to the union. With full reviews for all of the Alien and Matrix movies and an active presence everyday here at Now Playing, Xenomorph is the officer every union should have in their charter. He is also the only member/officer with over 2,000 NPoints. Congratulations Xeno! You earned it.
big_old_tom
A second repeater, Big Tom whose Name Game just spawned a third thread is this week's second MVP. Adding 2 movie reviews to his resume while bringing in a few more members to Now Playing, Big Tom's had another particularly active week. Tom is another guy that you can count on seeing everyday at Now Playing to grace the boards with his presence. Congrats again Tom!
LEGOslayer
Welcome Lego! The only first time MVP included in this week's honors, Lego has surely earned it this week. Adding another 2 movie reviews to the archive as well as recruiting some members, Lego has had a great week here at Now Playing. Yet another member who's always one the boards, always sharing his opinions. Conratulations Lego and the other two MVP's of this week.
I love Chris Farley movies. Today's movie is one of his best. While all of the movies he starred in are hilarious, this movie is touching as well. With hilarious characters and a heartwarming plot, today's movie is uplifting and funny at the same time. If you haven't ever seen a Chris Farley movie, well then, I pity you. R.I.P. Chris. You're still missed.
TODAY'S MOVIE:
Tommy Boy
[Tommy carelessly set an open bag of M&M's
on the dashboard and they immediately poor into an open slot]
Richard Hayden:
Oh that sounds good: melted chocolate inside the dash, that really ups the resale value.
Tommy:
I think you'll be okay here, they have a thin candy shell. 'Surprised you didn't know that.
Richard Hayden:
I think your brain has a thick candy shell.
Tommy:
Your... Your brain has the shell on it.
Richard Hayden:
Are you talking?
Tommy:
Shut up, Richard.
Today's comedy movie is a hilarious entry into the genre. With the lead characters giving shining comedic perfomances rounded off by the wonderfully funny co-stars, this comedy is bound to be a classic. At least in my book. Well, any movie starring Steve Carell is a classic in my book, as it should be in anyone's book.
TODAYS MOVIE:
Anchorman:
The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Bill Lawson:
[narration]
There was a time, a time before cable. When the local anchorman reigned supreme. When people believed everything they heard on TV. This was an age when only men were allowed to read the news. And in San Diego, one anchorman was more man then the rest. His name was Ron Burgundy. He was like a god walking amongst mere mortals. He had a voice that could make a wolverine purr and suits so fine they made Sinatra look like a hobo. In other words, Ron Burgundy was the balls.
Ron Burgundy:
Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
Veronica Corningstone:
No, there's no way that's correct.
Ron Burgundy:
I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means.
I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore.
Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.
Veronica Corningstone:
Doesn't it mean Saint Diego?
Ron Burgundy:
No. No.
Veronica Corningstone:
No, that's - that's what it means. Really.
Ron Burgundy:
Agree to disagree.
Well, as pointed out by Xenomorph, today is Independence Day, July Forth. So I thought we'd take a look at a more...patriotic movie. Not a war movie or a heart warming patriotic...war movie, but a movie starring Will Smith. What could be more American then Will Smith? I defy you all to show me a movie not starring Will Smith and say it's better than a movie with Will Smith!
Today's movie was a blcokbuster in it's day. The "amazing" special effects and "outstandingly awesome" costumes round off the "superb" acting in this "thriller". NOTE: Any words in quotation marks ("") are pure sarcasm.
Of course, back in 1996 the effects in this film were top notch. Watching it and comparing it with The Matrix or Star Wars Episode III is unfair. Just like it'd be unfair to rate a Super Nintendo game with today's graphic standards. While the effects were good back then, this movie didn't earn any academy awards for acting. Not even Will Smith punching alien invaders in the face can win him an Oscar for his performance in this film.
The real reason for choosing this movie, besides it's name, is the real meaning of the film. While aliens might not represent the glory of freedom, this movie gives us an example of how this country fights for it's people and why our people stand up for their country. And it shows us that Will Smith rules balls.
TODAY'S MOVIE:
Independence Day
Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith):
[after crashing the alien spaceship by the Grand Canyon]
*That's* what you get! Ha Ha! Look at you! Ya ship's all banged up!
[shouts]
Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith):
Who's the man? Huh? Who's the man? Wait till I get another plane!
I'm a
line ya friends up right beside you!
Where ya at, huh? Where ya at?
[Hiller opens the spaceship, the alien screams, Hiller smacks him in the head]
Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith):
[beat]
Welcome to earth.
"Who is afraid of the big bad wolf?" The creepy little girl sings as you sit watching the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's newest thriller, Lady in the Water. "Hopefully it will be better than his last movie" you remark.
I thought we'd take a look at Shyamalan's last film. With good acting and a "twist" ending to shock audiences like his classic, The Sixth Sense, today's movie looked to continue the Shayamalan thriller series after the succesful, Signs.
TODAY'S MOVIE:
The Village
Ivy Walker:
When we are married, will you dance with me? I find dancing very agreeable. Why can you not say what is in your head?
Lucius Hunt:
Why can you not stop saying what is in yours? Why must you lead, when I
want to lead? If I want to dance I will ask you to dance. If I want to
speak I will open my mouth and speak. Everyone is forever plaguing me
to speak further. Why? What good is it to tell you you are in my every
thought from the time I wake? What good can come from my saying that I
sometimes cannot think clearly or do my work properly? What gain can
rise of my telling you the only time I feel fear as others do is when I
think of you in harm? That is why I am on this porch, Ivy Walker. I
fear for your safety before all others. And yes, I will dance with you
on our wedding night.

XENOmorph00010
This fine member is a prime example of what a union member should be. Kind, insiteful and productive. Writing numerous reviews, 3 (that I counted) this week alone, he is dedicated to providing information and his opinions to this union. Now Playing wouldn't be what it is without Xeno.
Jiggafly117
Another reason why this union is where it is today. An active member who's also written a movie review this week. He posts on all topics and is a humerous and polite gentleman. Most of the time.
big_old_tom
Recieving the third honor of the night, Tom is responsible for creating, the most active thread, The Name Game, which has spawned over 40 posts and a recreation which brought the total of both to over 100 posts to this date.
Everyone thinks Mel Brooks is crazy now. If you've seen the South Park based on him then you have an idea why, even though South Park is a fictional cartoon. For Christ's sake, he built his own church!!! (Pun intended) Oh well. He's mega-rich. Richer than we'll ever be. And at least he's a good actor. So is Heath Ledger. And if you're asking yourself why I'm going on about Gibson and Ledger, we'll, you'll see. And if you don't...please...get some help...
TODAY'S MOVIE:
The Patriot
Benjamin Martin:
I have long feared that my sins would return to visit me, and the cost would be more than I could bear.
All this hype about Superman makes me sick. With today's MOTD, we'll take a nostalgic trip back to the Summer of '02 when one of the all-around best superhero movies had just hit theatres. A movie whose second sequel is due out next summer.
Batman's cool. Lots of gadgets. Superman. Yeah, ok, he can do pretty much everything. But who is somehow cooler than both of these comic book characters, due to having one of the biggest blockbuster superhero films of all time based around him. Spider-man, Spider-man. Does what ever a spider can. Spins a web any size.Catches theives just like flys.
Look out! Here comes...
TODAY'S MOVIE:
Spider-Man
Uncle Ben:
Remember, with great power, comes great responsibility.
Ring Announcer:
What's your name kid?
Peter Parker:
The Human Spider.
Ring Announcer:
The Human Spider? That's it? That's the best you've got?
Peter Parker:
Yeah.
Ring Announcer:
Oh that sucks
A summer long contest is about to begin. Do you have what it takes to create the next blockbuster???
Hey guys. I snooped around and found out where to get a photoshop demo and I made this banner and a union tag. Read inside for more...
