Latest Updates
From Anime News Network:
The October issue (on sale August 21) of Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh officially announced that a second season of the Gunslinger Girl anime series will be produced. The Japanese magazine runs Yu Aida's original manga that inspired the anime. The production company Marvelous Entertainment had revealed that a sequel was in the works in its 2006-2007 financial report on May 30, but the company then edited the report to remove the Gunslinger Girl reference in early June.
HUZZAH!
Del Rey Manga's new Comic-Con International 2007 acquisitions, scheduled for release starting in January 2008, are Fairy Tail, Hell Girl, a manga adaptation of CAPCOM's Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Nintendo DS game, and a manga version of the life story of legendary blue musician Robert Johnson, entitled Me and the Devil Blues. Del Rey will also publish Hideyuki Kikuchi's Dark Wars: A Tale of Meiji Dracula novel, the Psycho Busters light novel, and the Genshiken Fan Book.
Fairy Tale's probably the most notable thing here. It's popularity in Japan has been growing tremendously. I've been following it myself through scans and it's quite good.
The licensing of Phoenix Wright's manga is sort of surprising, but in a good way. It will probably help increase Phoenix Wright's popularity in America, and thus give us a better chance of having future Phoenix Wright games translated.
Some of you may know Hell Girl as "Jigoku Shoujo." I've heard this one mentioned a lot, but haven't checked it out myself.
The Genshiken Fan Book is also a pretty big surprise, since it's usually only major shonen that get to have translated fan books/art books.

The 13-episode series was produced by Aniplex and directed by Kazuo
Terada.
Glad to hear it got licensed. I watched a few episodes a while back. It's a good series, though it doesn't get much attention.
director Hideaki Anno's official confirmation that the film will be
released theatrically on September 1. At the bottom of the page they also have a link to the streaming teaser trailer. Unfortunately, this is just a bunch of Japanese text (with a bit of English) and sounds of an orchestra warming up. Still, it's interesting news about the new EVA movie.
Funimation has acquired Suzuka, a 26 episode series from Kodansha, and
plans to release it on DVD this spring. Del Rey currently publishes the
Suzuka manga, and Funimation is "in the early stages of discussing
cross promotions."
As many people have deducted, Geneon Entertainment has licensed Rozen
Maiden. The first volume, with four episodes, will be released in
spring 2007. On Monday Anime News Network will announce the winners of
the "Guess the Geneon License" contest.
So if there happen to be any desu-holics on this board, rejoice~desu.
4Kids marketing director Roz Nowicki confirmed that the company will not adapt additional episodes of One Piece.
OH. MY. GOD. FINALLY. YAY FOR HUMANITY!!!
For those of you that don't know (what rock have you been residing under?), the 4Kids dub of One Piece is, at best, a complete butchery. Now that 4Kids has ceased production, they'll most likely drop the license in a couple years, which will make it possible for a new company (Viz or Funimation, perhaps?) to step in and start dubbing it again. This is awesome, awesome news for One Piece fans. No longer shall we be subjected to the perversions done to One Piece by the evil distributor known as '4Kids'. Even if they hold onto the license for some reason or no other company picks it up, the series shall never again be forced to endure such horrid mistreatment and ruination. Rejoice, my brothers!
Also, if you've only seen the dub of One Piece, I would highly advise you to go find the fansub. It's a completely different series. Seriously. It's the best shonen out there.
