Haha, jeez, and just like that I found it.

There's a quick sand pit right before the midway check point. Ride it all the way down (it won't kill you). It will take you to an area where you'll hit an upside down P block to make some platforms appear to reach the coin.

so how do I get the last star coin on 1-4. I know exactly where it is, but I can't get to it because of the pipe. I kept trying but ended up being killed by cheep cheeps. Do I need the penguin suit?
