And I quote: "I'm not interested in money. I've got a job; I can buy tucker; I can go fishing and hunting. That's all that matters to me."

This guy is awesome.

But...5 billion! He could have done so much good with that money. Like donated to existing charities. Maybe even create one of his own. Help people who don't have anything.

And he declined it because of "sacred" land. Oh man, give me a break. I wish my land was "sacred". I'd take the 5 billion in a heartbeat.

I agree, but he is still awesome.

Dude. But the land is his. That means he's got 5 billion dollars worth of land he's just sitting on. And he can ride his bike on it.

I want land. And, if he ever really needs 5 billion, he knows where to get it.

Wow, that takes courage. To be honest I would take that $5 million, buy a big mansion with a big garden. Donate a chunk to charity and keep the rest.

Uh, Pele, you're off by a magnitude of 100.

Honestly, I respect his decision, but I'd have taken the money and run. The world needs uranium and money is awesome.
Or even better solution, lease the land under certain conditions making sure they respect the land, both its ecology and heritage, while mining for uranium. It protects the land while providing a steady and significant source of income.

Time to put some negative spin on this...

By not allowing that uranium to be mined, he's causing the world to rely more on burning fossil fuels which pollutes the environment.

but on the plus side not allowing them to dig up the uranium will mean no noise pollution and the land kept in its natural habitat with being destroyed.

not to mention he could brag about it.

"well i have 5 billiob $ worth of uranium in my back yard so ha!"

Is it really up to him to make this world less dependent on fossil fuels?

Yeah. yeah, he is a numb nut and there is multiple of reason for him to take the cash, both good and bad, and not taking it was probably a bad call as it could have been used for good.

But no matter how bad a desicion it was he still TURNED DOWN 5 billion dollars, and lets just all agree that that is simply awesome!

Eh, money really changes people, especially that much. Like if you win the lottery and you've never really been financially secure the people usually go crazy and just spend all the money on useless stuff. I would take the 5 billion dollars and the first thing I would do is hire an agent
