The Tale of Sir Gigglesquish

Rated T for Cartoon Violence, Comic Mischief and Violence

Nintendo DS

Controls:

Title caught your eye, eh?

The Tale of Sir Gigglesquish is a game i'm currently thinking of doing for the Nintendo DS. It is a side-scrolling hack 'n Slash title with a seemingly light hearted tone.

Story:

Bill Williams is a demented child. His parents always thought he was a nice child, until his fourth birthday. While the cake was being cut, Bill's mind snapped. His relatives all became dragons before his eyes, and he stole away the knife and stabbed one of his cousin's in the name of honor. In his mind, Bill had become Sir Gigglesquish, Royal Knight of the Land!

He was sent to an institution and lived there for 6 years. On his tenth birthday, Bill was sent to see his Aunt to test his mental stability.

It was not very good. He screamed in the name of honor and stabbed her as well. He found a family portrait and a phone book containing the address' of all of his family, Sir Gigglesquish left off on the adventure of his life.

Touch Screen/ Dual Screen Utility:

The top screen will show what Bill is actually doing, while the touch screen shows Bill's interpretation of it all. You draw across the screen to attack and fire and what not.

Basic Attack 1:

Draw up on the Touch Screen to slash up.

Basic Attack 2:

Draw down on the Touch Screen to slash down.

Basic Attack 3:

Draw forward to on the Touch Screen to Stab.

You can combine these basic attacks to string long combos! Combine with air attacks to fly into the sky!

There are also many Technique Scrolls you can collect to gain more moves to make even bigger attacks!

Gigglesquish.  That pretty much is enough said, but I will say more.  I like the story, and even the name (pretty bizarre though).  I'm not really sure how many hack'n'slashes there are for the DS, but this would be neat.

Well...this is certainly...unique...

j/k Great idea, its good to see something slightly less dark and bloody as many of the ideas here. Keep up the good work, and BTW, is there a reason why he goes nutty, or is it one of those games where crazy stuff happens and it doesn't matter why?

Heh. I'm not really sure yet, he is only 4 when he stabs his cousin...so...ouch. My brain just exploded. I guess it is a mental problem. Watches too many cartoons maybe? Parents did drugs or dropped him on his head when he was born? I dunno...

He screams in the name of honor!

Pretty funny idea.  The thought of playing as a demented character who sees the world around him as a fantasy setting would definately be entertaining.  He could run around slaying school buses (dragons, of course) and trying to escape the caves of madness (a shopping mall).

I've got to hear more on this one.

Ooo...good ideas! I'll work on this some more in school tomorrow, not like I have much else to do

EDIT: Here's a dumb little boxart I did:

Is it good? I'm really new to photoshop :p

The box art is definitely better than I can do, and I think that the drawing fits the game really well.  It is not bad at all.  I am so glad (and thankful) that my cover was made for me because I like it a lot (and it is at least 100 times better than my original was).

That box-art actually fits in with the tone of the game pretty well.

I like the updated material a lot.  I think that you could work in some more attacks with the touch screen and it would be really cool.  Nice work.

Your updated controls are exactly like what I had in mind for my game, except for you would be playing in first person mode. A tap would be a thrust or arrow shot, a slash in any direction, either horizontal or vertical or diagonal will slice across that way.

I think that the DS and Wii have a lot of potential in this manner.

Yeah, some of it's already being used (Red Steel etc.), but nothing really on the DS yet. That's why I chose to do Gigglesquish for the DS, it just seemed to fit. :p

Exactly. Also, like I said in the first or second post of mine, the DS needs to have a mature title to get the haters off its case. Maybe I would have to develop for the Wii instead if I needed better graphics on a wider screen, but Red Steel has to do with the same topic, although in a more contemporary setting.

Still though, the dragon looks like Trogdor from StrongBad's emails.

Yeah, didn't really catch that before, but now..yeah. I definately see where it's coming from. All 11 of the other dragons look different though.

Haha, yeah the dragon looks like Trogdor.  That's pretty funny.  I think it would be cool if the ds screen could sense pressure ( can it?), but if there was a stylus that you could hook up to the ds that has a spring loaded pressure sensor that can tell how hard you are stabbing.
