If you had asked which franchise I prefer in general, it would clearly be be The Sims. But like some others here I think it's not yet time for Sims 3. It will be when game development has progressed to a point, where Sims 3 could be an improvement compared to Sims 2 as much as Sims 2 was compared to Sims 1.
I am not really a fan of the SimCity franchise so far. I have played both SC2000 and SC4 for a short period but it never really elated me. I am however a little bit curious in what way Maxis might change the game for a new version. For now I'd say I prefer SC5. But that's only until it's time for Sims 3 and I really need Sims 2 expansions as long as this is not the case  >[fabtep] |

Same here, I was hoping SC4 would get the SIMS treatment with expansion packs galore but it seems like they've all but abandoned SC4  SC5 would be nice if they scaled the complexity down a bit, made one HUGE region and put the fun back in it  |

SC5. Sims 2 may be one of my favorite games, but SimCity is SimCity, its a classic.
