If any of you have ebay accounts and want to help shut down a thief, feel free to read on.

User everydayearthling has apparently been racking up a lot of sales of GameSpot strategy guides. For example, feel free to check out this listing and compare it to our strategy guide PDFs...

If you want to help report this kind of stuff, use this link while logged in to your Ebay account. Cut and paste this into the field for Item Numbers: 150083085846 , 150082987082 , 150082987474 , 150083060353 , 150083060910 , 150083061028 , 150083061184 , 150083063093.

Those are the item numbers on all the auctions that this guy is running. If you can use the email form, feel free to cut and paste the following information with links to our own guides so that the Ebay people can compare them:

Gears of War strategy guide:

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6161208/p-5.html

And our Dead Rising guide (scroll down):

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6155400/p-2.html

Saints Row:

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6159581/p-8.html

And Oblivion (scroll down to the first picture):

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6147085/p-3.html

Thanks. We'll try to watermark these things better in the future, I guess. Still, this sucks. Please feel free to send me a PM or email with any other sellers that seem to be offering our guides and we'll try to sort them out with Ebay.

Matt, put watermarks, document notes and password protect the zip files. At least we can number down the suspects this way and help prevent this from happening again.

I have always been a cynic of ebay. One of those great in theory, dubious in practice things...

If I had an account, I would fight your corner. Hope you stop this guy!

Did you notice that this seller was also selling a CD to play 297 Xbox games on the 360, but when you look at the list, it is the same games that microsoft has already made compatible. It's amazing what some people are willing to buy and amazing that someone knows that people will buy them. I hope you can put a stop to this Matt.

Same happens with open source software: people unpack it, change the name, the looks and sells it to mid-sized/corporative users. Makes you wonder if the "open source" or "free information" policies would be, in the future, the correct choice for programmers/editors/etc.

    BTW; reported.

So I tried to report this stuff to ebay, but the items had already been pulled (the item numbers are now invalid). It just pains me to see that the guy himself wasn;t shut down and that his feedback score is decent.

Man, that crap is really annoying. I guess eBay aren't helping you out much here , Matt? Is there no way you can threaten them with legal action to get them to move their butts and do something?

One of the first items I bought of fleabay was two font CDs. The picture in the auction showed a legitimate font CD package (case and all) and the description was for "5,000 professional fonts on 2 CDs", but when I got the CDs they were just a couple of CD-Rs (in paper sleeves) with the fonts on them. I was just starting out as a designer then and also fairly new to the computer so it took me a while to learn that I had been ripped off. I think that's what happens with most people - they are either new to the whole computer/web experience and/or have no knowledge of the scams and scam artists out there.

I hope that got shut down, Matt. I know how much it sucks to have your work stolen.
