My Friends

16Nov 06

Hey did you hear? The Wii is launching on Sunday!

But before we get to that, there's also another console that's currently the topic of the town. The highly anticipated PlayStation 3 goes into North American gamers' hands tonight, and to celebrate the occasion, Sony is holding a launch event at the SonyStyle Store in New York City.

Lining up for their chance to get a console (and then probably sell it for a quick profit) are hundreds of gamers. Seated in folding chairs under waterproof tarps, the hopeful entertained themselves with both PSPs and DSes, as well as books, cards, and portable DVD players. It isn't quite "roughing it," but it's tech-savvy gamers we're talking about here.

Watch the video below to see a walk-through of the line.

Apologies for the shaky hand, there was a lot of foot traffic. It is New York after all.

Wow! One of my friends met with a guy in the line down at my local Best Buy, and he brought enough money to be 5 PS3s.

Good work Tim. I was hoping to see Ricardo and Brad in that line somewhere, no?

Perhaps I'll see you around the way, Tim. I'll be there interviewing line-goers with my unimpressive arsenal of Panasonic audio cassette recorder and Canon digital camera - the non-video-taking kind.

Wow. I would love to take a day off from school/work and line up for a console launch. I think it'd be a great experience. But for the PS3? Ha! Think again!

I would have for the 360 but oops no money.

Anywho. Cows! Perfect. What happened to some cows at a Wal-Mart when they were told to wait outside? They rioted!

And putting out of their misery? Heh. I heard that there was already a drive-by BB Gun shooting at a PS3 Launch line.

I don't see any reason why anyone HAS TO HAVE ONE NOW! There's nothing good for it yet. Nothing on the level of Halo or Zelda.

what a bunch of nerds. Some of us have Jobs and lives and cant stand in line to buy something. LOL and there's no promise you'll even get one by camping out in line. Who knows how many the stores will get? nobody in line, thats for sure. hahah! I'll just buy a 360 , and wait til the ps3 is a proven system. and by spring, maybe they'll actually have some in stores.

Those people can't be possibly thinking right...too much trouble and money for a GAMING console... come on... what do people think it's gonna do??? Take them a bath and prepare breakfast for them?? I don't think so. They got to learn to invest not waste their money. I'm 25 and I've been a gamer since I was 5 years old... never stopped playing since...And never did waste too much money on a game console and I think I never will.

  • lldjslim

    Posted Nov 16, 2006 9:58 pm PT

Yeah, they are some stupid people in this world. I'm sure most of them are their to resell it on e-bay for profit, nothing wrong with that. Good Luck to them.

That's capitalism my freind. If Sony would make enough to meet demand we wouldn't have this problem

?400,000? units sheesh, thats not even a drop in a bucket full of hampster vomit.

Wow man just wow. I never in my life stood / sat / camped outside in a line waiting to get a video game console whenever they launch. I always wait to get my hands on one cause no telling what kind of problems can occur with the first couple of batches of consoles when first released.
