    It's Official, I'm Lame

    So crimson and red,
I feel it flowing from your lips.(Crimson and red)
My heart is dead and so are you.

The game isnt as deep and passionate, though it does have it’s
frustrations and tantrums. Crimson Sea 2, I’m not quite sure if it’s
such a widely recognized game, though for 10 bucks you cant really
argue. After snagging it up I finally got a chunk of time to put into
it today and I have some decent first impressions, a barrel of
complaints, and ambition to finish. After reading some reviews I got
the impression it was an amazingly easy game that you could hold the
shoot button and win. So I began on Hard mode and began to play through
the first mission, an hour later I had lost 14 times and started over,
and switched to the other level thinking the difficulty of the level
was the problem. 6 losses and I got the hint, it wasnt that easy. I
started the game over in Normal mode and made some progress in the hour.

After playing the demo for Prey and planning on writing a little
review I decided to go out and get the full game to get a better hold
and view on the game to get a better review. The game was terribly
horrid, so I dont mind springing for it and going through it.
Bought Dragon Quest 8, amazingly it was dropped to Greatest Hits
recently so I sprung for it. I played the demo a while back and the
game intrigued me, so I bought it today. More so, the game is in it’s
original packaging. I get the FFXII demo, and I can feel proud of it. I
personally dont like seeing “Greatest Hits!” slapped on the cover, it makes me feel a bit cheap. I also got ratted into preordering FFXII.
It’s a Final Fantasy game, and I love the franchise to death, so I was
planning to purchase it, but I wasnt planning on preordering. Never do,
though I dont really mind, it’s the collecters edition and it should be
    nice to have anyway.

Which brings me to my thoughts on the Final Fantasy franchise which
were sparked by a fanboy cashier at the EBGames. He was a avid fan of
the Final Fantasy series as I could clearly tell by his total
dedication to the games without any negative criticism or insight into
them. I think it’s pretty clear that the Final Fantasy series started
to see a decline around Final Fantasy 9. The story was mediocre,
characters werent lovable, and the system seemed less “sparkly”. FFX wasnt bad,
I enjoyed it for PS2. It had great graphics, decent gameplay, and an
alright story(better than 9). Though it still wasnt amazing, I wasnt in
    love.

FFX-2 was just trash, it was a stranger to me. It was if it were a
dyke, a man-hating lesbian, and I wasnt supposed to be playing it with
all the dress-spheres and pop’py music. FFXI abandoned the traditional one-player mechanics
and brought it online, though I’ve never touched it so I cant really
judge it, but from what I’ve seen it isnt bad as a MMO. Though it isnt
a traditional Final Fantasy game, so I cant really look at it as a
direct part of the series. And then FFXII,
the total betrayal of the classic system of turn-based RPG combat and
the new Gambit system taking away basic control of your party as a
    whole.

See some FFXII gameplay involving Gambits here

It’s been a bit of a downwards spiral, and looking into the future with FF13 and 13 VS, I cant expect much from SquareEnix anymore. It’s hard to ask them to
surpass the sheer “awesomeness” of Final Fantasy 1, 7, 8, etc, but it’s
a bit expected as they were doing a pretty damn good job up to a few
    years ago.

MechaAttack! is getting a much needed makeover, so far I have the design done and I began on the coding last night. It should be done by the end of the weekend if all goes well, and with the redesign and realign,
I’ll begin making advertisements and such for MechaAttack! so we get
some attention and readers. A podcast has been in discussion for a few
days now, though we’re looking for some other people to join in the
podcast to spice it up and add some arguementative content and
contraversy. If you love video games and rant about them alot, and also
have a decent microphone, hit me up on my email and get in touch. I’d
    love to hear from you

sD2: Prey, Crimson Sea 2, Yakuza

    I love Ramen too.

But that's beside the point. I installed the Prey demo the other day and recently delved into it. After putting a night into it, I can put all the hype aside to truly say this game is close to being utter **** First reading about the story and seeing game-play, I thought the game would be promising. But once I got into the game, the story seemed very moronic. Native Americans and...aliens? I'd say the developers were on more opium than the creator of Monkey Ball. The idea of portals was extremely interesting, but the way they were used in the game, they would have been better off as doors. They are placed in seperate rooms for the most part and just take you to another part of the area. Not very innovative. And the weapons, they're huge and odd looking. The first weapon you get has no reload, ruining the game-play experience. It's just another FPS with some oddball story, with aliens thrown in, and huge oversized weapons. And cant forget buckets of blood from humans getting massacred.

I got my hands on Crimson Sea 2 for the PS2 in the discount bin, looks like a basic shoot-em-up easy game, though I'm looking for something with a high entertainment value. I'll be reviewing it once I get more in-depth in it. So far it looks fairly simple, lots of shooting and slashing with no real challenge. Some combos every now and then, though it's wayy to simple to get 100 combos. They're way to continuous, though I cant expect much.

Hurricane Ernesto is hitting us down here, a bit quaint, I'll be getting 2 days off to delve into some video games. My weekends havent been spent well lately, between homework and labor, there hasnt been much "gaming". Though with the cash I earned I'll be buying Yakuza for damn sure, it looks pretty interesting. After it's comparison to Shenmue it jumped to the top of my list. Though I've played similar beat-em up's for the PS2 dealing with mafia and/or gangs, this seems like it'll be enjoyable and rich with diversity. I dont expect to see much innovation, but the concept ought to be interesting where Sega decides to take it. I was awed by the series of trailers Sega released describing the backstory of the game in a cinematic experience.

    Yakuza Movie Trailer 2

Very interesting. Though the story was a bit jumpy and oddly composed, it was sure as hell fun to watch a bunch of Jap kids beating the living **** out of eachother. Damn skippy.

Look out for my Prey review on MechaAttack! as well as Crimson Sea 2, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, and Harvest Moon: Friend of Mineral Town. Yes, I am livid fan of the GBA, and soon DS. Expect to see many GBA titles on my list :-)

    cappucino

In terms of the video game realm, I’ve picked up a copy of F.E.A.R. Combat,
the multiplayer extension of the original F.E.A.R. The servers are
fairly speedy, I havent had much problems with lag or disconnections,
only on rare occasions. The UI of the whole thing ought to be improved,
I’ve seen better UI from Tribes, which came out 3+ years ago.
In general though it rivals Counter Strike in my opinion, it’s vastly
simple but at the same time you tap into all your senses and it becomes
a game of somewhat strategy and difficulty. Hackers are problematic, as
with any game, you’ll have you’re fair share of users with wall-hacks,
speed-hacks and such, but that’s to be expected in my opinion.

I also picked up the, I’m guessing, old demo of Lego Star Wars 2.
The level design is what struck me first, and the inability to change
the view on the level. As well as the structuring of each of the
levels, it was just too simple, yet overly complicated. Every level had
it’s door with coins in it, with some rooftops to pounce on and get
coins from, and then a door you had to solve a mini-puzzle to get
through. Personally I think this one lacks much from the first,
environmentally. Though needless to say, I had a great time playing the
roles of the different characters from the cult-classic.
