Sam Fisher is a Double Agent

Fourth Splinter Cell gets two-faced suffix; Superspy apparently infiltrates terrorist organization from within.

It's official: Sam Fisher is working for the bad guys...sort of. Ubisoft has made public the name of the fourth game in its Splinter Cell series, and it may lead some to think Sam has gone to the wrong side of the law. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent is "coming spring 2006 to consoles and PC."

The game's plot has been hotly debated on the Internet ever since pictures from Ubisoft's teaser Web page were leaked. The images showed an older Fisher with a shaved head in a mug shot, blueprints for banks, and a psychological profile that read, "Fisher had little or no regard for civilian casualties," leading many to believe that the superspy was so distraught by the loss of his daughter that he went on a bank-robbing spree.

The truth, it turns out, is another win for the good guys. In an e-mail sent out by Ubisoft, some information sheds some light on Sam's recent actions. It turns out that Fisher must "infiltrate a vicious terrorist group and destroy it from within" in order to "stop a devastating terrorist attack on American soil."

Earlier today, pieces of info on the Web site indicated that Fisher indeed spends time in jail, helps a fellow inmate break out with the help of a prison riot, and is later offered a job in return. The site now shows four mug shots with the warning "beware"--one of Fisher, and three of additional characters.

Gameplay and features of the game are still under wraps. GameSpot will have more details on Splinter Cell Double Agent as they are announced.

I can't help but notice the members who like to subtly point out that they have XBox 360s "Can't wait to play it on my 360!" I guess is the gamer equivalent of "can't wait to go for a drive in my Viper and then go home and play with my giant penis!" Anyway, you'd think Ubisoft of all companies would know to steer a character away from too much "baditude", after getting shredded about Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

Regardless of whether or not Ubisoft likes to engage the realities of the world (e.g. having Sam Fisher infiltrate an Islamic terrorist cell), this whole double-agent bit is definitely going to awesome regardless. So it may feel like Season 3 of 24, but 24 is simply amazing (although the game... :-( ).

Besides, if Sam WERE to join an extremist Islamic group, imagine the training he'd have to go through in regards to extreme religious ideologies...

It just said 'infiltrate a terrorist cell.' It never said it had anything to do with Islamic extremists. I doubt it will, because Ubisoft never had the guts to deal with real controversies (even though it's a fact that islamic extremists exist, they never seem to want to engage the truth.) This will probably be about some russian neo-marxist or maybe an IRA member that wants to bring back the warrior days of the IRA by attacking the US for some reason. It's kinda sad

"So you're claiming that "Splinter Cell: Double Agent" is perfectly innocuous, but the phrase "Sam Fisher is a Double Agent" is somehow rife with spoilers? That's the game's entire premise! That's what Ubisoft is making plainly clear right now, months before the game comes out."

Yes, that's exactly what I'm claiming. I've heard nothing about the game because I've been trying to avoid all sorts of spoilers. I didn't know ANYTHING about SC4 until Surette posted this article, and now I know "the game's entire premise".

I now have faith that the 4th game might actually be as good as the 3rd... For a while there I was doubting it. I only hope they make it look as ****ing awesome on advanced PCs as they did with Chaos Theory. =)

Yeah. The first thing that came to my mind was 24: season 3. However, the second thing that came to my mind was Naked Gun 33 1/3. There will more likely be a virus involved than the Academy Awards, though.
