Nintendo launches new DS demo kiosk in Japan

"Touch! Try! DS" terminals let consumers try out system and 30 titles before picking them up.

TOKYO--Nintendo has let Japanese DS owners download game demos from special kiosks in the past, but now the company is also reaching out to those who don't yet own a DS.

The company has placed new DS demo kiosks across Japan called "Touch! Try! DS," which lets consumers try out the system and 30 games before making a purchase. Where previous demo stations merely invited DS owners to download free samples of games to their handheld, the new kiosks have actual systems to try out.

The kiosks currently offer demos of 30 games, including Mario Kart DS. A demo of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time will be available starting December 15. The list of participating stores and available games is available at Nintendo's official site.

    they should do this in the US. i dont know what games are good for the DS.

    it would help and nintendo should do it to attract more gamers to there console and i would like to try out games before i buy them it would be really helpful!

    I'm just waiting for a the new DS to come out... admittedly, they haven't even announced it yet... so it could be some time... but when Jeff Gerstman started talking about a smaller DS, I got thinking.

    So, the main things I don't like about the DS are...

    1. Pictochat... it's a little basic... maybe they could replace it with something else via the WiFi if they're able to send firmware through it.

    2. A smaller DS? Why don't you just remove the GBA slot and put one or maybe even two extra DS slots into it so we really could have more than one game at once.

    3... That's about it really... I love my DS dearly. The touch screen is rather scratched now but that's because the thumb pad got scratched... and unless they start selling diamond tipped thumb pads, that's not going to change...

    Any more ideas?

    Thirty games? Wow, thats a pretty decent selection. Nintendo is always trying to get publicity by doing this stuff anyway. I don't think they're going to get many more sales through this tactic though, they need to wait for the next killer app, namley metroid hunters. Besides, Animal crossing just came out, and I think that did pretty well for the DS sales as Nintendogs did when It came out.

    i dun think the US can handle them.......imagine free DS's for the suburban vandals, i say this b/c hell, i see a DS jes sitting there i'd take the sh*t but it has potential they should look 2 retailers like qoute "game crazy" unqoute Gamestop, EB Games and maybe even willing shopping malls.... but i have 1 question, the DS can download stuff?

    FYI - Game Crazy stores let anyone try any game in the store including new copies of portable games for DS and PSP.

    ...and Nintendo can't spare that here in the United States where it is as big as Japan's gaming industry...just a REALLY GOOD thought.

    Downloadable demos would be great.

    This would be awsome if it hit USA for download stuff, cause there are so many games that i want but i want to try them first

    DS games can be updated, Tony Hawk's American Sk8land has downloadable content features. At least, that's what I thought...
