Computer won't sleep more than once

The PC Hardware is place for you to discuss hardware involving the PC. Please look back a few pages before posting repetitive topics. PC software not related to PC games is allowed. However, the CNET software discussion boards dedicated to a variety of retail software will give you the best results.

Important! Asking for Windows keys or circumventing the copy-protect to accommodate multiple installs can lead to a moderation with suspension and the possibility of permanent ban.

I've got a Media Center computer running Win7 with a somewhat strange problem. If I try to put it to sleep after a reboot, it will go to sleep fine. Everything will shutdown correctly and I'm able to start it up again either by the mouse, keyboard, or remote control. If I later try to put it to sleep again, it sounds like it shuts down the harddrive and the video seems to shut down, but everything else keeps running and the computer is unresponsive to any further input. It then has to have a hard reboot and then the process can start all over again.

I've tried with hybrid sleep both enabled and disabled, and it is currently disabled. I've checked device manager after sleeping the first time and it's not showing any errors. My motherboard won't support hibernate mode, so that one's out of the question. I've made sure that the NIC is not able to wake the computer from sleep and I don't have anything recording which would keep it from going to sleep. I've changed the wake on mouse and wake on keyboard bios settings back and forth, and they are currently set to disabled. I've made sure that all of my drivers and the MOBO(Gigabyte) firmware is up to date. One thing where I did make a bit of progress was setting the bios sleep setting to S1 instead of S3, which seems to work fine but frankly I'd rather just leave the computer on all the time than to mess with S1.

I don't really expect anyone will have the magic answer for this unless you've seen the exact same problem, so I'm hoping someone has and can offer a suggestion. I'm pretty much ready to just say screw it and just leave it running all the time, but it would still be awesome to be able to let it sleep when not needed.

If you're using a keyboard shortcut, try using Start>Turn off computer>Stand by instead.

I think Win7 got rid of the Standby option, or just renamed it Sleep.
