Saturday I tried to long on to my World of Warcraft account to play and to my surprise it informs me that my account was merged with a battle.net account. I did some checking and noticed that on WoW Armory my 80 Paladin (my main) no longer exists, my 75 DK has absolutely no equipment left, and my 60 mage is also naked. I have started the process of getting everything back, but I more then expect to be disappointed about what I get back. Since i have been planning on leaving anyway once Star Wars The Old Republic comes out, this seems like a good enough reason to search for something else.

I prefer PvE over PvP as I want to enjoy the leveling process (not one as messed up as Final Fantasy Online ~shiver~, waiting 4 hours for a group never gets old), strong story, and extremely well developed characters. I work 8 to 10 hour days so Raiding of any sort is out of the question. Hopefully, they will be good enough to hold my interest in Old Republic comes out.

Sanity is a myth. Anyone who thinks they are sane, are just crazier then the rest of us.

I'm actually enjoying dragonica. It's a fairly simply MMO and free. It's also rather rewarding. Missions give 1-3 items to each person in the group (instead of 4 people rolling for one item). The combat is real time too.

I'll check out the useful one, but being sent to the Hell'o Kitty website was kind of scary. I'll probably have nightmares for weeks.

Been reading up on Aion and Age of Conan....still reading.

That's not even close to being an MMO.

Anyway, to the OP, LOTRO might be worth checking out for the meantime. EQ2 is actually good, however all the servers let you buy gear with RL cash now (even though it's still $15 a month to play...), so I think I'd avoid that one. Something about everybody being able to buy stuff with cash turns me off from an MMO.

Age of Conan, population is dying, more content has been added, bugs are still an issue as well as balance (though from what I hear the bugs at least aren't nearly as bad as it was at launch).

Warhammer, balance issues, content removed, population is small (making a PvP based MMO rather pointless). PvE was boring except for Public Quests, however, with population issues, you might have problems even finding anybody to do these.

Aion, personally I didn't like it, but there seems to be a lot of people excited about it. Hopefully it won't fizzle and die, so I'd wait to see if it remains established with a decent population a couple months after launch.

So right now I'd have to recommend trying out LOTRO.

Asheron's Call. No joke. It has the cheapest fee and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Sure, it's 10 years old. Otherwise I guess I would suggest Lord of the Rings. I haven't played it though.

Dungeons and dragons online, as you have probably heard its free. I was not expecting too much from the game, however I absolutely love it

If your thing is dungeon crawling then this game is for you basically, combat is smooth and the deepest combat system of any MMO I have played, with so many spells/skills to use and so much customization in your character development . I havn't even touched PvP yet and I am PvP centred in games. You can choose to pay for the extra features or you can play the game and earn credits to unlock the content.

If you havn't played this game download it and register now!

By FAR the best free MMO on the market.

Hmm, maybe DnDO might be a possibility. Although, I am not much of a fan of the Eberron world it still might be worth checking out. Of course, I haven't played their PnP ever since WOTC bought out TSR. DnD 3.5 just isn't as playable as old second edition used to be. Of course that may have been because I had played second edition for almost 10 years before 3rd edition and 3.5 came out.

Definitely check out Aion. It comes out in a week.. I've been playing some of the beta, and it's a pretty fun game. I think a lot of WoW players like it, if that means anything to you.

If you want to check out some others, Age of Conan is good, as is Warhammer Online.. I quit playing WAR since the level of performance in PvP areas is really wonky. Vanguard has really great-feeling combat, mainly due to power usage and weapon animations.. EQ II has lots of fun content and its a really quick game to level up in now, so it will keep you entertained easily.

Lots to choose from if you're thinking about playing something that's already established itself for a while.

Overall I'd say play Mabinogi or Dragonica for a week or two, and then get Aion when it comes out...

edit: Forgot to mention that LOTRO and DDO are the biggest yawnfests of MMO's I have played in a while, so I can't recommend those. Kudos to the guy who recommended Asheron's Call Now that's a cool game.
