These two racing games are now on my radar. I'm certain GT5 is coming this year, the same year that I will get a PS3. Now I certainly don't have time to play both, so it's come to this.
Despite owning Forza 2 my play time with Forza is limited. My history with Gran Turismo begins with the original and ends at Gran Turismo 2 with many hours of gameplay on each.
I didn't even consider Forza until I found out you could rewind during a race. Also there's the V8 supercars thing. Now I don't really care about that yet, but I probably will once I'm playing it.
I haven't been down on my Gran Turismo info for a few years, so inform me. Sell me!
Features? content? graphics? support? Need For Speed?
I have a feeling Shift is gonna turn out to be a good game too, but that couldn't be that large that it can contend with these, right? Actually I hope is isn't because if this is good I want room for it.So it's the battle of the exclusives. Enlighten me.

on GoTY, Dont forget N-Man.

Just get both, one after the other. Dont try and play both games at once or the difference in handling will make you less of a driver then you really are.
They will both be bloody awesome.

People used to compare GT5 with Forza 2 but now Forza 3 is coming out and destroys pretty much every point GT5 gamers had against Forza 2 and that was graphics and in car views although there still wont be 112 skylines in forza to cheaply increase its car count (sorry to say). Also Forza is an actual sim with accurate physics simulation. GT5 will be the same monorail simulator like all the other GT games were.
Also don't be fooled by GT5's car count, only a fraction of those are 'Premium models' which include in car views and damage modeling as opposed to Forza 3 which will have for all.
Also I doubt GT5 will come out this year.

I'm getting all 3 of them, but NFS Shift looks the best. I maintain I say looks the best ill wait until I see how the rest of the game pans out.
NFS series is hit and miss, Forza and GT are always consistent and will be certain to be top quality games.

Might I ask why you think Shift looks so good? I haven't looked into the game at all, so I'm not having a go at you I'm just curious to see whats been announced/shown for the game.

GT4 had more tracks and more cars and EVERYTHING was more detailed than Forza 2 ever was, and they are both DVD's. Remember GT5 is on Blu-Ray, Forza is still stuck with DVD, and its been over 4 years in development compared to Forza's 2 years. If it came down to picking either one it would be GT, but only by a fly's scrotum. Love em both equally.

That may be the case; but last time I checked (might have changed) Forza was coming on 2 discs.

[/QUOTE] Have you seen the gametrailers NFS Shift samples? Watch them first.
They are just simply amazing, something that doesn't get a mention often is the sound, the engines sound spectacular, the game seems to be a perfect balance of simulation and arcade. Even the accidents seem to have a real impact about them.
Forza and GT as much as I love the series sometimes I feel its too much of a racing simulator, the handling can be brutal at times however I love the modification of cars.

Considering how GT has had the word "simulator" on the cover since the first game, I don't know exactly what you expected.
For me, if I were interested (Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and Wipeout HD have the racing scene covered for me), I'd go GT5. Polyphony have always been perfectionists regarding how the cars handle and generally feel, and getting the Nascar and WRC on board has made it very appealing. It's got nothing to do with the fact that I don't have a 360, I think.

I love these Game vs. Game threads, I'll at least try bridge the gap between GT2 - GT4 for you, some things improved while some things went downhill.
Gran Turismo managed cover about every closed wheel racing type that i know of which even includes various Rally classes, Vintage things like the Ford Model T and even a few of our V8 Supercars (GT5 now covers NASCAR.now i believe, not that i care). Theres more focus on car Class tournaments (so you were forced to collect and use a wide range of cars), Theres overwhelming no. of car models in GT4 (its about 300-400 if you exclude the different versions of those Japanese imports) the GT endurance races got more ridiculous with the inclusion of 24 hour races which need some refining and better incentive, they introduced a driver management mode where you dont even have to race the car yourself (sounds stupid... but the game can often become grinding). There was one well known licsese test in GT4 that caused rage-quit for many, GT3-GT4 had scrapped the option to change a production car to a racing modification model, more licensed racetracks were probably the most prominent improvement.
Not much is known about GT5 one thing i noticed was more cars on the field (more than the pathetic 6) and the inclusion of some exotic manufacturers Polyphony didnt get their hands on with its predecessors, Forza 2 set a new benchmark, i believe Polyphony Digital can smash it, If they dothe only problem is will it be enough to meet what Forza 3 will offer,If they dont there are no excuses,
Considering theres been a working prologue thats been out for some time (i think theres was another released only in japan) the back of my mind believes they could well be finished.
I saw NFS shift in that crossharis episode... it does look great, the only problem is it just doesnt look like a NFS title no more

Thanks for that, it's not like I am a gaming noob, I have owned every single GT game since the series commenced. If you want to impress me name drop some racing games like Street Rod.
One thing that GT has never done is car damage at least Forza has that area covered, GT has always had a problem of just bouncing off walls, Polyphony aren't that perfect.
My point was that sometimes I just don't feel like playing racing simulators and want a little more arcade. My perfect balance is about 70% sim 30% arcade.

i just hope they have damage models on the Rally cars at least...
one thing i missed with my previous post was how GT backed up the abscence of damage models by throwing in crash/bump penalites, it destroyed some of the latter class races where that rule was normally enforced.

apparently its due to car companys not wanting to have their cars bashed up. but the videos of GT5s crash moddeling look quite good.
im not sure which one to go with, and if i did go with gt5 or forza, i would need to invest in a wheel to get the most out of it.

my mate's a forza freak, so i''ll be playing plenty of that at his place, but because it's not on the right console i won't be able to acquire it. i'm very keen for GT5, it'll take a bit of getting used to but i'm ready to pour 100 hours of my life into as i did with gt3. i hope ea can turn nfs around after the last few titles that were absolute rubbish, but i hope that they keep it nfs and don't change it to something that feels different.
