I don't see the reason MS can't fix the problem that has been around for so long. Look at Sony they must be doing somethingrightthat MS should be doing too. I know the Cell uses less power then the CPU in the 360. Also the GPU in the PS3 is less powerful so it produces less heat then the one in the 360. If MS uses a heatsink/fan that something like Sony uses in the PS3 I think it could fix the problem once and for all.Could it be more a design fault in the case then the heatsink they use?

PS3 - now playing Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Warhawk. X360 - now playing Red Fraction, COD: WW.

    was this topic really needed?

the 360 wasnt built very well, the GPU from what i under stand is right below the DVD drive and thus cannot get surficent air flow + by the sounds of it, its just not laid out very well.

its not something microsoft can fix since it would mean making loads of 360's then exchanging them

I have got the 3 lines once but all i had to do was unplug the PSU and plug it back in.

People just cannot look after their stuff properly

    Lol

People can't look after their stuff properly, oh so the 4 RROD I got were my fault eh? I did everything I possibly could do & it would still fail. But as stated MS finally upgraded & I haven't had any problems since.

Yes they can change things. I bet a slim version of the 360 is going to be out in 2010 along with Natal. They can change the DVD drive to the other side if they wanted too. They need to make changes even if it costs them more to do so. Or maybe they can put a fan on top of the heatsink like the one the PS3 uses.

My PS3 makes more sound then my 360 once that fan turns on to high setting. That is a loud fan.

well idk what circumstances your 360 was in xD just seems a bit odd how people can go through so many xboxs or maybe ive just been a lucky one

    But to the reply PS3_3DO

but why though? its not like its a massive problem now. They may bring out a 360 lite or whatever with that natal rubbish (sorry i dislike it along with the wii and the Wand = worst name ever ) to make a whole new design would cost them alot of money and alot of effort which they just reaally do not need to do.

It's always been in an open good air flow environment. Originally I used a laptop cooler with my Xbox 360, got 2 RROD with it. After that & still today I use a stand that is grated with bars large open slots all around the console sitting vertically. Got 2 RROD that way as well, one console only last 3 weeks. That 4th time MS said they were upgrading it with a bunch of new parts & since I've had no issues except for the DVD drive going out.

does any one have the article and chart showing that the ps3 uses just as much power as sometimes more then the 360 processor? I know for a fact this was posted on here at one time.

I know that the PS3 as a whole uses more electricity due to it's less efficient design, if that helps...

Yeah I saw that chart Ithink in 2008. It said the PS3 uses more electricity then the 360 if you keep it plug in and on standby mode.

PS3 - now playing Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Warhawk. X360 - now playing Red Fraction, COD: WW.

Well my system is getting repaired at the moment and it's a late 2007 model ... bought May 2008

It would be nice to believe that the newer systems are much more reliable and with the smaller chip ans less power they use it is possible that the problem has been solved.

lol my console is just about to get either e74 or rrod, it's got black lines on the screens during gameplay, and online it says this is signs of the e74.

luckily i've got an extended warranty on that mofo, the 360 is the first console/handeld to break on me ever, and now it's setting up to happen twice oh well.
    I aim to misbehave
