Reports of the Halo 3 edition Xbox 360 suffering from the RROD have begun to surface. And guess what? It uses the 65nm processor, which was touted by Microsoft apologists as the cure for the Red Rings of Death. Turns out, it's just a way for Microsoft to save money on production without passing it on to consumers.

I'm curious... Is it possible to get a complete refund from MS after you suffer the 3 red lights, instead of another console that won't work as it should? If not, it should be a option.

halo edition wasnt confirmed 65nm. Plus what kind of source is this? A picture of a 360 with red rings, ever heard of photoshop? How many elites have you heard of breaking?

What a piece of junk that console is...

It's a shame, too, because there are some great games.

Are you sure it has the 65nm processor?

I agree that the 65nm die ''Falcon'' CPU might not solve it, but It's a good step forward in lowering the overall heat inside the system (also costing less and using less power). There is still lots of thing to be solved with the X360 before it gets the normal 3~5% defective rates.

They could just put screws with nylon washers in it instead of the xclamp, problem solved.

That's what I got... a new console but I kept my HDD. But could I have asked for a refund? I'm just thinking of those who have suffered this problem many times. In the end, they deserve their money back because the 360 isn't worth it.

Lots of 360s break because the X-clamp that holds the GPU heatsink in place loosens and the heatsink doesn't make full contact with the GPU. This causes RROD problems. Many people have fixed their 360s by using a much better quality clamp that tightens the heat sink to the surface of the GPU. Of course, doing so voids the warranty.

I'm not saying this is the main reason for RROD, but it would be great if Microsoft could improve the console with a better clamp so that it can help to at least alleviate many of the instances of RROD.

Why not? The faulty rates are dropping and three year warranty is a long time. Most sony consoles break after a year or two.

If it is that simple, then why haven't they done it?!
Instead of 3 years waranty that cost $100 per conole in existance (from wikipedia).

I imagine that those people would be getting sick of sending their 360 away for weeks on end. It's not exactly convenient.

You won't get your money back because the console was never purchased directly from Microsoft. You have to go to the place you bought it from (the retail level) for a full refund, and the chances of them saying "yes" are very slim. You could always ask for another console though plus a free replacement plan warranty from the retailer.

That's what they USUALLY do. You send your console in and keep the hard drive.

Unless it's not RROD and is instead a freaky Hard Drive error.
