It's the dead of summer, so what better time for a game like Dead Rising to come out? A departure from Capcom's better-known Resident Evil series, Dead Rising had many prospective players very excited about the game's simple-but-compelling premise: You're trapped in a zombie-infested shopping mall and you must hold out and stay alive for three days until help arrives. But how good of a game did Dead Rising turn out to be, really?

Find out! You can read our full review, watch our video review, or view the live video review (recorded previously) for all the gory details. Also check out all our player-submitted reviews of the game for many more takes on how Dead Rising shaped up. Our live video review of Dead Rising first aired on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. PT. Following the premiere of GameSpot's video review, viewers saw a live question-and-answer session with with senior editor Jeff Gerstmann and the game's reviewer, associate editor Alex Navarro. While the live feed was available to all viewers, GameSpot paid subscribers could watch the feed while participating in a live chat and sending in their toughest questions about the game.

Dead Rising is rated M for Mature and ships to stores Tuesday, August 8.

this game rocks, very hard so the casual gamer might not like it.considering only one save file and other thing like it not working with alot of hard drives.but i went and got a memory unit and it was worth it so my game cost over a $100 canaiden dollars and its worth every penny.

While I can't believe this save system made it through the testing stages, let alone the final release, it's not as bad as you might initially think. I've been playing the game since its release, and I've started over quite a few times. Not necessarily because I HAD to (though that did happen a few times in the very beginning), but because the game is genuinely fun. Plus, replaying allows you to keep your stats and play as a bigger ass-kicker on subsequent runs.

To be honest, the first time I finished 72 hour mode, I wasn't really strong enough to make a decent attempt at Overtime mode. The saving grace of this save system is that I was able to replay the 72 hour mode as many times as I wanted, getting stronger and stronger, and when I was ready, jump right back where the game left off with the Overtime mode. I'm not defending the one-slot thing, but at least you can dive right into OT mode when you like. You just really need to be smart about your saves.

To the people saying that you only get one save for the entire game...WRONG! You can save as often as you want...you just have to go to the bathroom or the couch in the security room. However, you only have ONE SLOT, so if you save the game and do not leave enough time to complete the mission, then you have to start the game over (i doubt you will ever do this though). I have/own the game so I know. All you people speculating (because that's what you are doing since you don't have any clue what you are talking about), that you are right are the ones who are wrong. So stop telling people you only get one save for the whole game because a lot of people will screw themselves out of playing a really fun game.

Simple solution to saving only save at the start of a mission simple..

and to be clear there is one save game slot, not one save for the whole game you can overwrite the same save slot whenever you want....

great live review really like the format some great info, shame i have to wait until sept 9th for uk release, but im must have played the demofor more than three hours already so that will keep me busy

one reason by the way for later in europe is all the language translations as everyone does not speak english in europe, some devs have the resources to do them all at once some take longer

um u can save at any restroom or the couch in the safe room. u cannot save to the same device (ie the same hardrive) because it will overwrite it. so yes u can save as many times as u want as long as u get to the couch or the restroom and save.

ok i noticed Sam_lowery said that by one save they mean u get 1 save slot and u can only over write that slot. WRONG!!! One save meaning if u save ur progress somwhere in the game, u cant save any more!! u have one save to use. if u us it, beside the rare autosaves, thats it!! u cant save any more!! got it??

Man i wish they'd get a reply system on here.

It will be so cool if the mega-buster in Dead Rising acts as a powerful machine gun that kills zombies in 1 shot.
