Most Long-Winded Game Title

In the right hands, a game's title can be a great descriptor of its essential qualities--a perfect consolidation of every reason someone would want to play that game. Think of "Gun" or "Forza Motorsport" as fine examples. In the wrong hands, a game's title can become needlessly complex, long-winded, and, in the worst cases, just plain pretentious. Unfortunately, when it comes to wordy and complicated titles, the game industry has few peers. Some of the worst offenders of 2005 are:

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Never Ending Tomorrow

A testament to the sheer number of Gundam games that exist, the titles need to be excessively long if only to make at least one notable difference between them.

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie

You'd think King Kong would be enough to drive the point home, but the marketing geniuses behind this title obviously thought something else about the game was more poignant.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge

As opposed to that other guy's Nightmare Before Christmas. We understand that the movie came out a long time ago, but a longer title isn't necessarily going to jog people's memories any faster.

Changing the subtitle to German is probably just a really clever cover-up for the fact that it's the name of another video game (Beyond Good and Evil). Hey we're all for German... in German versions of the games, that is.

As with Gundam games, the length of this title can only be due to the number of Yu-Gi-Oh games in circulation, approximately as many as there are letters in the title.

First it was just "King Kong," and you know what, we liked it just fine back then. Then it was "Peter Jackson's King Kong." OK, that's not so bad either. Jackson earned himself some goodwill with that little indie flick he did a few years ago about dwarves. But now...now "King Kong" has become the 15-syllable-long monstrosity that you see above. To us, PJKKTOGOTM's title reeks of the tampering of far too many dirty little marketing types intent on making sure that every licensee was properly appeased. Memo for marketing trolls in the future: When it comes to sending a message to consumers, gameplay speaks volumes more than the title.
