Tune your ears to our favorite video game soundtracks of last year.
i liked the assassins creed , uncharted , deus ex and shadows of the damned the most of all these tracks but they forgot the mw3 soundtrack by brian tyler
Hearing Nameless Song play during the end credits of Dark Souls made the journey more than worthwhile. Hands down the best game I've ever played. The Shadows of the Damned song was pretty cool as well.
the assassins creed music sounds a little like dragon age music to me. The witcher 2 had an amazing soundtrack if you like more traditional classical.
No one liked this stuff when it was Garage... No one liked this stuff when it was Speed Garage... Throw in some deep bass and suddenly it's all over the place. You want good bass and dirty sounds. Listen to some drum&bass.. Or some Jungle.. Neurofunk style!! This stuff was around way before and yet it still goes unknown.... That is all. Good game though at least....
Skyrim has great music. But it makes me laugh. It played while a friend was being chased by a walrus. Now when I hear that male chanting choir, I can't think of anything else.
i spent all of deux ex trying not to kill people, then i realize during the final mission that my non lethal weapon kills people. screw that achievement...
You'd think (or at least I would) if this was a professional review/look-at of original game soundtracks they'd have a higher bit-rate for the audio portion of the video. Even changing the video itself to a higher resolution doesn't enhance the sound quality (by switching to a higher bit-rate of sound) as it does on youtube. Son, I'm very disappoint.
Although all of these soundtracks are quite amazing, especially the L.A. Noire, Skyrim and Bastion ones, I'm disappointed that "Gwyn, Lord of Cinder" from Dark Souls didn't make it to the video. After the 110 hours I had put into the game, when this track played, I felt like I was saying goodbye to a good friend. No game has ever made me feel that way. So here's to Dark Souls for my personal nomination :) Here's a link to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH3mbB3H57g
All good stuff but the L.A. Noire one was the only one I turned on just for the music while doing other stuff.
nothing really memorable about any of these although they are excellent quality for background music...you won't find me humming them like some of the classic themes that truly made the best games in the past. Too much emphasis on the beat and atmosphere and none on the melody. Nameless Souls and Guar Plains are the best of the bunch imo. La Noire's was good too but it's not really a 'theme' for a game. Skyrim's is good too but it's rehashed theme from Oblivion that's not near as good as Oblivion's theme. Laura Shigihara is awesome. Loved the Plants vs. Zombies stuff.
2011 had some amazing soundtracks, but I can't wait to hear what this year has in store for us! Especially the soundtrack for Mass Effect 3, gonna be epic!
Wow, I hope this year is just as fortunate as last year in the music department. We got FFXII-2 and SCV to start things off, let's hope they don't disappoint! :)
Music: Skyrim... it was epic, and really fit the world perfectly. Sound Effects: Battlefield 3... hands down the best sound effects I've heard in gaming! It does a marvelous job creating a sense of space (small hallways reverberate perfectly, and the sound just opens up when you step outside). Absolutely gorgeous!
Greg Edmonson made great and beautiful music for the Uncharted-franchise. You know what's weird... How many people say that Nathan (heh) Fillion should play Nathan Drake for the movie... Well, Nathan Fillion played in a series called Firefly, and guess who made the music for that?... It's just another sign...
Woah, the facial expressions in 'L.A. Noire' are so lifelike. The skin-textures are quite blurry, but the movement, no doubt it's motion-captured...
InFamous 2, Deus Ex, Dark Souls, Xenoblade, Skyrim and To the Moon had amazing soundtracks. Didn't feel Rayman though. And where's Portal 2? Skyward Sword? Shadow of the Colossus? Anyways, Great list.
Sonic Generations has earned my personal pick for 2011's best music, It's not just because it's great in the game itself, but it's incredibly infectious outside of the game. Seriously, I couldn't get the themes for Chemical Plant Act 1 and Egg Dragoon out of my head that one morning.
dark souls has the most impact piece because that is at the end of the game, after all that hard crap before it there is a simple melody line singing to you as you immediately recall everything that happened to you in that game
the theme songs in Bastion are superb! also Shadows of the Damned and Deus Ex HR hav great mood music
