Out of this World's amazing achievements far outweigh any of its problems.

User Rating: 8.4 | Out of This World SNES
It is not an exaggeration to say that Out of This World was the most cinematic console game ever made at the time of its release and for about five years after (until the Playstation). This fact makes this game a joy to play even today, as it provides an atmospheric and memorable gameplay experiance as well as impressive insights on how much could be achieved with 32-bit hardware. The graphics in this game are very simplistic and unique they really give the game a look that fits the overall aesthetic, the cutscenes look good, the in-game graphics get better as you go along, but the main problem is the frame rate, at some points, this game may have the worst frame rate in history. Luckily, the places where it is normally really bad don't affect the gameplay too much, it is just really annoying. The sound is atmospheric and draws you into the experience really well.

In this game you play as Lester Knight, a scientist who gets zapped into another dimension by his particle accelerator (or something). Anyway, you get captured by these aliens who look like they were made out of granite. Your goal is to escape their complex city. This is much easier said than done as the game puts you in a whole bunch of different situations: sometimes requiring you to run away, fight back with you versatile gun, or solve complex puzzles with very little feedback if you are doing them correctly. This variety of events makes the game expertly paced and never makes it feel like it's recycling material, however, because you have so many different situations the game can become incredibly frustrating. There is only one way to handle each situation and the game never gives you any indication if you are doing it correctly and often kills you instantly if you are not: this makes nearly the entire game dependant on trial and error. I think the most fun way to play this game nowadays is with a gamefaq, you still experience all the amazing moments and intelligent gameplay but it cuts down on the frustration quite a bit (though not completely). The game is not terribly long by todays standards but you will have to replay many sections and the game will definitely give you your $6.00 worth.

Despite the the problems with the frame rate and trial and error gameplay, this is a game that anybody who considers themselves well versed in videogames should go out and play right now, It is more engaging and unique than most games today and it is 14 years old.
