Get the unofficial patch & this game is TONS of fun!
After that, a dull and lifeless game can shine for what it is. A fun romp where you kill a bunch of aliens.
It's a real shame it was never officially patched, because this game has some really great visuals and interesting level design. The AI is spotty. Somtimes the enemies will just rush at you madly, sometimes they'll hide and do basically nothing and othertimes there seems to be some kind of method to their madness. After all, they are aliens, how are we supposed to know how they think? Right?
Sure, it's not the best game in the world, but if you just want something for a quick blast, that doesn't require much in the way of thought, then this game is a lot of fun!
In some ways this game made me think back to simpler shooters of old. Like way back to the days of the original doom games, where the most important thing was fun and not having to collect 40 different items and worry about your inventory.
I'm not saying that collecting items and having an inventory is a bad thing, but not EVERY game has to be highly in-depth for it to be fun. If that were a requirement, no-one would buy a Nintendo Wii.
If you've not tried the patch, but you have tried the game you probably think this game is awful. Well, it was. It was released unfinished. But now it's been fixed.
