I once thought that God of War was the most innovative game in years. I was totally wrong. Many of the concepts and mechanical aspects of GoW were ripped right out of Onimusha. GoW has been described (paraphrased) as "Onimusha with Greek mythology".

The mechanics are fantastic, and the graphics are equally fantastic. Add the ability to control several different characters throughout the story, and the inventive level design (think puzzles solved by moving things back and forth through time as well as space) and you're on the right track.

I can't recommend it enough. It's one of the few games that I've played start-to-finish in several continuous days.
