As Much of a Sequel as Can Be Expected

User Rating: 8 | Onimusha 2 PS2
In this sequel to the very entertaining Onimusha: Warlords, both the hero and villain return to fight it out in another mash-up, fighting game. The story notwithstanding, as its been years since I've played it and since I can only remember the game play, that should say something, takes the gamer back to feudal Japan and pairs the same hero you played the last time, but with a few additional friends. The basic concept is the same, solve the puzzles and beat the bad guys. The unique thing with this game, and as I think about it, it resembles Devil May Cry, is that as you progress through the game, you get new, more innovative weapons.

The weapon selection is what I remember and enjoyed the most. I loved the basic weapons you started with, but the spear was by far the best just for distant usage. The special attacks that came with each were always really cool and the graphical representation of each made them fun to use. The boss battles, though not terribly memorable, were also challenging enough, but not so much so that you can't make it through the game.

Overall, a fun game, but I don't feel like it really added to the overall series, it was just another game with the same principles and game play as the first.
