Gamespot reviews aren't relevant.  This has been proven time after time.  All anyone should pay attention to is the metacritic and user scores.

What the hell are you talking about. Don't make opinions for others like "it will get dull quickly" because you know what, Dynasty Warriors is a favorite of mine and I absolutely love One Piece so this game would be like a dream come true for me. Also you're dissing this game while Dynasty Warriors was the same, easy specials and combos and taking enemies out by the dozens is what it is all about! Also have you ever played the hit game series Legend of Zelda where to solve a puzzle all you do is hit buttons and swing around! Basically adding some puzzle just made this game a little bit better! Cuz of idiots like you Japan isn't able to release anime games like this one and now i probably won't be able to experience this game until I'm able to live on my own and move to japan and even then it may not be in stores anymore!

It's impossible to imagine One Piece with different animations. This is the perfect animation for an anime game. A lot of different colors that pop-out making you able to see everything even if you are busy doing something different. Like in real life, it's like a side view. I understand that it would be a little hard to understand the story, but you should if you listen closely. The fighting style in this game is EXACTLY like the anime and manga. Yes, the styles can be repeated over and over. But they can be repeated because of the way they fight. Luffy is made of rubber, you can do a lot of things with rubber. Even using it for different fighting styles. No offense, but don't comment a game if you don't think first, or don't listen to the story.

Tedious game? wacky animation? Its cause of people like you who review games with mostly insults that japanese games never make it in EU, NA. There are actually retards that only read reviews before playing games and thats why some game companies never release any out of japan. In my opinion you guys in gamespot should never rate games or bring back the old staff that actually knew what a good game was

Wacky animations? This guy is on drugs. The animations in this game are beautiful, excellent and amazing all at the same time and that's pretty amazing in itself. The only remotely sensible thing this guy says in the video is that the game doesn't capture the excitement of the storyline in One Piece, which is true. The rest is just complete and absolute bull. This is why I don't trust reviewers at all, they're all dumb except a select few.

honestly, I would buy the game if they sold physical copies and actually dubbed it.  I hate almost all japanese audio in anime

 @honorr

Really? You don't find it unnatural to hear anime characters speak English. Japanese can be beautiful, a gentle talking anime woman adds sensuous mystery, IMO. Though a lot of the time characters tend to pitch there voices into a high squeak, that can be annoying if it goes on for five minutes.

The only things about this game that looked good were the graphics and the cinematics, but I see his point as far as not being able to fully enjoy the action of the game if they do the work for you. I was also upset that this game was not available for 360. The 360 needs more anime based games, where's the Bleach for 360, where's the One Piece,  how about Fairy Tail, etc. I am also hoping for another anime  allstar game like Battle Stadium D.O.N., but with a lot more anime, better mechanics and available for 360 too.

This game seems like such a rip-off...

It's interesting to see the differing perspective from East and West. This game was well received by critics (36/40 Famitsu) and it sold more in Japan than TTT2 did world wide. I mean it's pretty obvious Namco doesn't care about the NA market for most of the games other than like Naruto.

This game being released as Digital Distribution in NA is more like a pity move since they already had to translate it to English for Europe. That on top of the One Piece franchise being completely ruined by 4kids mean we'll probably won't get anymore OP games after this one. At the end of the day, if you enjoy this game then have fun with it cause i think it'll be the last one you'll get.

Em in every game you push the button and watch the character you control do the action. Your review sucks really bad. The combat is best so far from any Warriors(Musou) type game. Animations are great. The story is very good. Anyways if you don't like Musou type games or animes and never will, then get the frac away from here!!! If someone doesn't know, this anime One Piece has 10 movies and 566 episodes it has been going on for about 14 years, it's one of the best Animes in the world making the games story in itself very good. So disappear with this review and never come back to any similar game. Dang we really need more score types here, one from a fan, other from a hater like metacritic has. hmm make the users who actually review it separate from the user score who don't review and just vote, that would be like metacritic except instead of critics we have amateurs.

@maitkarro You come across as some childish fanboy. Its a bad game, deal with it.

Or you can always just go on ahead and write your own review.

maitkarro
maitkarro like.author.displayName 1 Like

@Kr3isen Don't you defend what you love, if not then you're a miserable human being. And I'm a fanboy, but I also like other animes that most other One Piece fanboys hate, like Naruto/Shippuuden, Bleach & etc. similiar. And it isn't a bad game, if you take it as it is meant to be a "Musou" game, some stuff could have been tweaked but it's the best One Piece game so far, in the Anime they fight against hordes of enemies anyway, like recently Luffy took down 50k enemies just with his haki("willpower") the rest was for the friends of his pirate crew.

Love it when people get all bitchy about anime games. Truth is: They really do suck.

I mean, maybe one day anime games will have their "Arkham City" moment, where one title just "gets it" and makes an awesome entry. Until then, anime games are even worse off than comic books games. Have fun with that...

P.S.: I don't like Carolyn's reviews that much, but get off her (technically, anyway) back. Any game that has to blatantly copy Dynasty Warriors of all games isn't gonna score well.

S-Biz

As a general fan of the manga, this game is a poor adaptation of the 60 volumes it's covering. If even skips two major story arcs (Skypiea and Thriller Bark) and omits a lot of the characters. Though for the latter, I can understand. The character roster for One Piece is huge. If anyone's trying to get involved with the storyline, this isn't the way to go. Disappointing considering this is the first One Piece game on an HD console and the first OP game to try to adapt the actual storyline since the Grand Battle games back on the Gamecube. That being said, I still think this game needs support despite Carolyn's accurate review.

If future One Piece video games are to have any chance of being released in the United States, Namco Bandai Games USA needs to see good numbers on the PSN Downloads. Unlimited Adventure did terrible, despite having solid reviews and gameplay.  We never got the much improved sequels in the States because of that. I know, in retrospect, by supporting derivative games, we'll likely end up getting more Pirate Warriors sequels (if Japan's sales are any obvious indications. Over 500,000 units the first week), but it's also my hope that someday we'll get other brands of One Piece games if someone high up at Bandai is listening, but that's really up to the fans to show support in their respective regional markets. It's also pretty much why I bought the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 game. Because there's actually other brands of good Gundam games out there that never make it outside of Japan.

How about you ignore the score, just listen to how Carolyn talks about it and watch the gameplay and make your own choice about whether or not it's worth trying.

Please.  This is another great game that Gamespot has unfairly shat all over!  If you don't like Samurai Heroes (Dynasty Warriors) type games then this will be a bad game for you.  If, however, you understand the point of these kind of territory based beat-em-up till the boss games (like the terriffic Sengoku Basara) you will LOVE this game!  Especially if you actually follow One Piece and know the characters, they are perfectly recreated here with the same voice actors and attention to detail in the beautiful character design.

It seems like any game with timed button presses really rubs Gamespot "reviewers" the wrong way!  As if this is some new game mechanic....Carolyn and Kevin need to understand that just because you don't get a game doesn't make it automatically Poor.

WCK619
WCK619

@psuedospike I don't think Carolyn or Kevin have anything against Quick Time Events in general. Just how they're used. As Caro explained, in this game they make you feel alienated from the action. QTEs have their place of usefulness, but all too often lazy developers throw them in just so they don't have to build a mechanic. Instead they can just build a single animation with button presses or stick wiggling to determine the success/failure of that animation. It's poor game building, and to not hold it against the game's score would be the same as not giving credit to those developers that actually put the time into building controllable mechanics.

i personally thought thought the game was excellently represented the one piece world. but if you want to know the story i recommend watching or reading the manga first. but if you alreayd watched or read the manga this game retells the story incredible. it recreates the scenes pencil stroke to pixel. just my 2 cents. (or 2 pence cos im british yohohohohoho)

this score is expected.  look at the demo or trailer you can tell is a Dynasty game with one peace skin.  There is nothing wrong with Dynasty play style if you just want to mash the buttons and see things flying, but if you are looking for depth or smart game play, you know you shouldn't look at this type of game.  Personally, i dont mind the button mashing sometimes, but i can see why it can be boring for others.

As a fan of One Piece anime and manga I'll skip this with a huge leap... Games made out of manga/anime has never been really good in my opinion. This one is no different.

One Piece bagged to be made as a game, but honestly A RPG!!! Entire concept of One Piece story and character development is RPG based...

ok, anyway... off to play something else...

GS shouldn't review games like this cos clearly anime/manga games are made for anime/manga fans. Most people would just take a look at the cover or screen shots and then move on. And with GS putting in low scores like this it would stop any new people from buying this. They give it low score cos its just like the musou games, but back then when they 1st came out they score high in a lot of reviews so evidently it is a fun game (albeit repetitive game) but just nothing new. Btw i love it and all the japanese people love it. not really a game that should be released in the west.

Seems like Gamespot are getting rougher in their reviews, I hope that's how it is.The industry standard of giving 7.5 to mediocre/kinda bad games and 9 to 'good' games is wrong, use the whole scale! And I'm damn tired of the "8.5?! This game is a 9!" comments.
